Mildew grows into porous wood, making it more difficult to remove than regular dirt (and more destructive). However, the lifespan for any wood siding, including cedar, can be far shorter without the proper repair and maintenance work. Don’t put off making repairs, or problems could worsen quickly. Contrary to popular belief, people still do use aluminum siding for their homes—but it’s much less popular than it was in the mid-1900s.
