"My husband and I were redoing the downstairs of our home as well as the bathroom. I asked Melvin for a bid and how much tile was needed. He and Lisa took the job, leveled the floor where it needed and did a beautiful job. We had a compass rose put in by our front door which they cut each piece out and placed accordingly. Melvin also tiled the bathroom shower and sink and did a superb job. We wanted to add some fish to the shower for our kids, so we picked a few photos out of some tropical fish and Lisa drew some up then proceeded to cut them out and they placed them on the shower wall. I also had a shower that was remodeled by a different company back in 2012. Lots of mold has grown since then, so we had Melvin rip the floor of the shower out, fix the areas that needed to be leveled for proper drainage and lay new tile. I have no complaints about that project or any other he has done. He is the best around and you can’t go wrong with hiring him!"

"I hired Tile by Jason to install long plank (8"x48") rectified porcelain tile in my home. I chose him because he had numerous reviews on Facebook that were all 5 stars and his price was better than anyone else. I was warned when I purchased the tile that the installer needed to know what they were doing and the floor needed to be flat or the tile would not look good. I met Jason at my home before the job was started so he could look at what was being installed beforehand. I emailed him the instructions given to me by the manufacturer prior to the start of the job. He assured me he could do the job. His bid was ~$3900 to install 1424 sq.ft. of tile. Two weeks later he showed up on time and on the appointed day to begin the install. He asked for $1000 to start the job and stupidly, I gave him the money. His crew started work immediately. We hadn't moved into the house so I gave him my key so they could have access. By Friday, they had installed half of the tile and he asked for another draw of $2000. I asked to meet him at the house to pay him and if he had the key so I could see the work, which to date I had not seen. He told me he didn't have the key so we just looked through the window at what was done, and it looked good to me. Stupidly, I gave him the requested $2000. Over the weekend, I returned with my wife who had another key and went to look at the work closely. I found significant lippage in many places across the floor. The lippage found was over twice the allowable and a quite few places would have cut someone walking barefoot across the floor. There were also tiles that were chipped installed on the floor. I met Jason at the house the following Monday morning and showed him what was wrong. There were so many places that were bad that the floor needed to come up and be redone. He told me that it's tile and it wouldn't be perfect. He told me if I would let him finish the floor and grout it in that it would look good. He then said he'd give me a couple of days to think about it, he then packed his tools and left. I had several tile people come out and look at the job afterwards and they all concluded it was bad and some spots were dangerous (cut hazard). I have since found out he did not use thin set for large format tile as he should have, he did not get the entire floor flat as he should have, and he did not use a leveling system as indicated in the installation instructions I gave him. I have since had the fllor taken up by a reputable company. most of the tile came right up and I was able to salvage about 75% of what was put down. They ground the floor, used a self leveling system throughout the house, they are using the proper thin set and a leveling system as indicated by the manufacturer. I am out the thin set material, the tile that's been cut, chipped or broken coming up and the money I paid him. I also had to extend my lease on my rent house another month because of the delay to fix the bad install. In total, I'm out about $6,500.00."

Floor Cleaning and Waxing questions, answered by experts

To care for hardwood floors and avoid damaging the finish, establish a regular cleaning routine. Sweep up loose dust and debris with a broom or microfiber dust mop daily to prevent debris from scratching the surface of the wood. Vacuum weekly, being sure to get into tight corners and under furniture.

Professionals use HEPA vacuums, industrial-strength cleaners, and microfiber cloths for effective cleaning without damaging surfaces.

Polishing a concrete floor isn’t as expensive as it sounds—it’s actually one of the more budget-friendly upscale flooring options out there. On average, it costs $4,500, with most projects falling between $1,000 and $8,000 . When you’re working with an existing slab of concrete, you skip material costs entirely, so it’s even more affordable. If you want a glossy, durable floor without paying hardwood or tile prices, polished concrete delivers serious shine without the sticker shock.

Regular sweeping, damp mopping, and avoiding harsh chemicals help maintain their appearance.

Professionals use various tools and cleaning solutions based on the type of floor they’re cleaning. They often use industrial steam cleaners to pull debris out of the carpet. For localized stains, they may use a commercial cleaner or a mixture of water, vinegar, and dish soap. For tile, they’ll typically use dish soap and hot water, plus a mixture of baking soda and hot water for the grout. For cleaning wood floors, they might use a low-heat steamer, a mop with an oil wood floor cleaner, or a mixture of hot water, vinegar, and lemon juice.
