"I had some settling issues with my foundation, and Jacob from FSS did a thorough evaluation of the problem. I had already had six different companies come by, so I was getting familiar with the routine. What impressed me about the FSS solution was that they could actually stabilize the foundation, putting it on piers that would not shift in the future, unlike the other companies. When the installation crew arrived (Thomas, Timothy and Kennen), they brought along some really impressive galvanized steel hardware. The installation crew was clean and very meticulous about the details, making sure everything was installed correctly. After the foundation was stabilized and leveled, another crew came to do a polyfoam injection under the foundation to fill the air gap left by leveling the foundation. This way the entire foundation is supported, and not resting just on the edges. Overall, I was very pleased with the work. They were certainly not the cheapest, but then, you often get what you pay for."

"When looking to have new sod installed, Luis contacted me immediately to set up a time to provide a free quote. We explained our issues to Luis on how we noticed large bodies of standing water would occur when we had large storms. Luis was very informative with what needed to be completed, and soon after his team went right to work placing in drains and new sod. The team was even nice enough to take away some random pavers and landscaping that was no longer needed and left by the pervious home owners. Great customer service, wonderful work and now we have a fresh new backyard we love!"

"The person giving the quote and the lady coordinating the work were very professional and courteous. The work done has held up for 6 months now. However, I had a couple of problems with the person managing the operation: 1) A few things in the quote were optional. The person at site wanted to charge me the entire amount!!! When I pointed it out to him, he came back with a lesser amount but still higher.Tired by now, I calculated the work and gave him a quote. It was still higher than the correct price. 2) Showed the site manager a small part that was missed. The site manager said that he will fix that. My neighbor approached him and he started doing my neighbors work!!!. Afterwards, when I reminded that they had to fix the small part, the crew said that they had not been informed earlier. They had wrapped the equipment. Discussed something with the manager. The manager mixed some solution in a bucket and put a water solution!!! He informed me that the concrete (or whatever they had put in) was close by and this solution should be fine. Would have preferred that he focus on my work and do the job properly."

Foundation Drain Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, professionals ensure proper grading and drainage to prevent water pooling.

A sump pump's lifespan is typically 7 to 10 years, though the general range can be anywhere from 5 to 15 years. The specific type of pump is a major factor: pedestal sump pumps last an average of 20 to 25 years, whereas submersible sump pumps last between 5 and 15 years. While pedestal pumps are less expensive to service, they are also louder and more prone to clogging.

Several other factors influence longevity, including the pump's quality, usage frequency, and maintenance schedule. A high-quality pump that is well-maintained in a dry climate may last for two decades, while a lower-quality, poorly maintained pump in an area with a high water table or frequent flooding may fail in six years or less.

Regular maintenance, including annual inspections and tuneups from a professional, can significantly extend the pump's life. It is time to consider a replacement if your sump pump runs constantly, cycles frequently, shows visible rust or corrosion, or trips a circuit breaker. As a preventative measure, many homeowners replace their pumps every eight years. It's also worth noting that a manufacturer's warranty can indicate expected lifespan, and some home insurance policies may not cover water damage from a pump that is past its recommended replacement date.

A sump pump can be added to an existing basement. To do this, you will need to use a jackhammer or sledgehammer to break up the concrete and dig a pit. You will also need to create a hole in your basement wall to run the discharge pipe through.

Since basements are prone to water and moisture issues and the resulting problems can be expensive to repair and potentially damaging to your home, basement waterproofing is almost always worthwhile. Even for homes that haven’t experienced water infiltration, waterproofing the basement is insurance against facing expensive repair bills in the future. All basements will leak at some point, so fixing drainage issues and taking steps to prevent moisture and water infiltration is wise.

Most sump pumps come with power cords that can be plugged into an outlet, but there are options that can be hardwired into a home’s electrical system. Either way, it’s smart to have a backup power supply in case the electricity goes out during a storm. That way, the sump pump can keep running and removing water from the sump pit.
