"The condo we bought needed several changes and upgrades.  We had an advantage in that we could let Roger work without anyone living there, but I think he'd have made it work either way.  He allowed us to buy our own materials (I get a veteran's discount) for no extra charge as long as I bought what was on his list.  This way, my wife got to select exactly the style, color, etc., she wanted.  The closet remodeling required demolition to the studs, then drywall, framing and new doors were installed. The wiring was particularly challenging on the brick walls between units, but he installed non-obtrusive conduits on the surface then put the outlets where we wanted them.  He relocated the water tank from an interior closet to an exterior storage room, and did all the wiring and plumbing needed, thereby freeing up a good storage area where it was needed.  Since our unit is over 30 years old, this replumbing led to several additional problems which he handled as they arose.  One point worth noting: When something unexpected arose, or we made a change, Roger handled them well, but anything not included in the original bill did cost extra.  No exorbitant charges, just his regular hourly rate plus materials, but he keeps his cost done by doing business this way.  Other contractors add a margin to cover the unknown, but also charge highly for changes once they start.  Roger is upfront about what he will do, and what he will charge.  If he runs into a problem that's covered in his bid, he takes care of those, if you make changes, you will pay for them.  Examples: Relocating the water tank led to replacing several sections of pipe; he took care of that;  It also clogged several faucets other places in the house due to the debris dislodged; I could either do them myself or pay him (or a plumber) to do it.  I paid him a fee less than a plumber would have charged for a house call.  Overall, an excellent experience with someone who charges reasonable prices for quality work."
