"Very professional. They removed a dead tree that the builders planted on top of concrete. They removed the concrete which was unknown to exist until they pulled the old tree up and didn't charge me for the extra time spent. Excellent work. Would definitely recommend. Juan was a nice guy and very knowledgeable of landscaping."

"Had a big backyard install with tree and stump removal. The owner could see what I needed and recommended a desert landscape for low maintenance. He delivered quickly. Within four days, the team accomplished a lot. He totally took care of my backyard needs. Stained fence, deck, removed large fruitless mulberry tree. And provided 25 yard of crushed granite, after clearing out my yard of weeds and grass. He had all the equipment to handle this jpb. It's such a relief to have my backyard complete with the crushed granite and landscaping with crepe myrtle tree and other plants. The owner had a good vision on what to do for a low maintenance, but attractive backyard. He completed all the work in 3 1/2 days, which was very good. And the price was very reasonable. HIghly recommended!"

Small jobs welcome

Customers say: Quick response

"It's hard to find reliable, trustworthy repair people of any kind. Well, I found H&K and the reviews led me to hire them. I cannot stress how impressed I was with Henry's attention to detail, pride in his work and friendliness. He explained what it would take to do the job and the cost. I had to have a bridge cabinet cut down to fit a combination microwave/vent hood over the range. He did this expertly and even helped install the microwave/vent hood. He also had to do some electrical to that same cabinet. Our job also included tile backsplash on two walls. Henry went way above just doing a good job, he went the extra mile to make sure the wife and I were satisfied..................... WITHOUT ASKING or pushing him, like some contractors you run in to. If you need any home repair done, H&K would be one of the first, if not the first, to contact for a bid. I won't bother getting quotes from another. Once I find a good contractor for what I need, I stick with them, and I have their card in my select few of various contractors I trust. Thanks again Henry, and Kristy, you guys are great!!"

Small jobs welcome

"They did great work. My bridge was impassable due recent flooding/ erosion. We were stranded at home. Unable to get out/across. Jose-Hernandez Brothers said it would be the following Tuesday (five days later) until he could do the job (this meant we would miss attending our Grandson's Graduation Party). However, due situation, they took time off to come out and make the repairs that Saturday. I would highly recommend Hernandez Brothers Tractor Work & Dump Truck Service not just for their great work, but character."

"I needed help to fix my yard with a retaining wall, falling into the driveway and the driveway starting to be washed away. Unit crew showed up at eight in the morning, ready for work and made short work of what would’ve taken me all weekend. The best part was he stayed in my budget and didn’t have to cut any corners to do it. Vio and his crew were polite and very hard-working. I’m grateful and blessed they were able to come out and help me as fast as they did."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

The rules and regulations regarding groundwater use vary between states. To find out if you can dig a well on your property, you’ll have to consult these regulations, address any compliance requirements, and get the appropriate permits. It’s also important to check that your intended location has the right geology and water table to support a well.

The best way to protect tree roots is to avoid the roots entirely by excavating outside the root radius of the tree. For nearby projects, it’s a good idea to construct a temporary retaining wall. But that’s not always possible, depending on the project and the root system. In these cases, consider using alternative equipment like an auger to tunnel under the ground.

Remember, tree roots can damage nearby cement foundations as they grow. If a tree is close enough to interfere with large excavations, it may be better to remove the tree than risk future problems.

Consultation with the local government helps identify necessary permits, avoid project delays or legal issues, and protect project integrity.

No, a ditch isn’t a trench. A ditch is an open, relatively shallow channel that’s carved out of the ground and used for drainage purposes. In contrast, a trench is a deeper excavation that’s entirely underground. Trenches have many uses, including gas lines, sewage systems, and electrical wiring. Unlike trenches, ditches don’t get filled back in with dirt after they’re dug.

Hard soil could be a sign of overly dry dirt, either from poor drainage or drought. It's important to test the nutrient levels, density, and drainage capacity of your soil to see if it's absorbing water properly. Begin by adding a light layer of water and observing how long the soil retains moisture. If you experience a good deal of runoff, you may need to aerate your lawn, apply a wetting agent, or hire a professional for a closer look.
