Our company provides prompt and professional plumbing repair services by employing highly-trained, licensed plumbers. We also work one on one with our customers on remodels and new construction projects. "I was scheduled with United Plumbing between 5 and 8pm Dec. 23, 2024 to have a toilet installed. I tried to reach out to the number Angi sent me through Lowe’s 3 times to verify several days before the appointment, and those calls were all ignored. I got a text message from the owner “Nate” at 4:45 on the day of service asking if I was available. I called him less than 10 minutes later to tell him I was on my way to the job location, and he responded by telling me, “we don’t work after 5, so I parked my truck.” I was very confused by this since he tried to reach out to me under 10 minutes earlier. After several minutes of requesting that he fulfill his pre-scheduled appointment, and him refusing, I accepted his offer to come at 9 the next morning. I said “I’ll see you at 9, and hung up the phone.” Nate cancelled and refused to come, “because I hung up my phone.” What else was there to say?! The owner is very unprofessional, and should not be running a business!"

Gas Logs questions, answered by experts

A plumber or certified gas technician is responsible for capping gas lines. Gas lines require expertise and understanding of safety standards to ensure it’s properly sealed. Your local regulations may also have specific requirements for capping gas lines.

The cost to repair a gas leak is $120 to $250 on average, but it could be as costly as $5,000, depending on the leak location and severity.

For example, if you have drywall covering the source of the leak, you'll need to hire a contractor to replace the removed drywall. In addition, if the leak is underground, you'll need a contractor to excavate the ground to reach the gas line.

Call 811 to locate and mark the gas lines at least three days before digging. In many areas, you can dig within 18 inches of the lines, though in some locations, the distance may be further. Check local regulations, as you may need a utility company representative onsite when digging. Document your calls to 811 and precautions taken to avoid gas lines. A homeowner can be held liable for hitting a gas line in some cases, but contacting the proper authorities and following all guidelines can offer protection.

You can and should vent the gas from your hot water heater to the outside of your home. Traditionally, these gases were vented back to other gas appliances, like stoves or furnaces, but many jurisdictions have outlawed this practice due to the risks it provides.

Most water heaters today use atmospheric venting that exhausts the gas out of the home through a pipe.

Shut-off valves, like any other piece of metal hardware, can corrode, age, get worn down, and eventually break or rust into place. Occasionally spray your shut-off valve with WD-40 to stall it from rusting. If it really gets stuck, a wrench and WD-40 will usually do the trick, but you will need to call a plumber if it’s completely unmovable.
