"We showed up ontime and responded quickly to all communications with this client. Most companies locally charge $85 just to show up and then a miniumum 1 hour labor for diagnostics at $100 per hour. That's at least $185 to just diagnose the system. We did a full diagnostic incuding compressor function, motor function, and diagnosed a refrigerant leak in his evaporator coil (which many companies charge $100's alone to do) for $49. When the client scheduled with us he expected he had a refrigerant leak (which we confirmed) and asked us how much we charged for refrigerant and we told him $100/pound for the type of refrigerant he had and that it just depended on how much his system needed and that his system could hold up to 10 pounds of refrigerant. It ended up taking 4 pounds which he paid $400 for as quoted. We also gave him a bid to replace his leaking evaporator coil and a bid to replace all of his ac equipment as it is old and the refrigerant for it is no longer made. We could not give an exact price for the refrigerant before adding it because you simply don't know exacty how much it will take until you fill it. We regret the client was unhappy but can't see a way we could have improved service. We were responsive, punctual, performed a detailed and complete diagnostic, got the system working properly, and provided bids to replace his failing equipment all at a price below local averages."
"We informed the client that his inside unit and outside unit need to be replaced and are in poor condition and he chose to have it repaired for financial reasons. The repairs we performed are major repairs requiring recovering the old refrigerant, dissassembling the outside unit, replacing a thermal expansion valve with torches in a confined space, pressure testing the refrigerant circuit to 600 psi with nitrogen, removing the nitrogen putting the refrigerant circuit into a vacuum, and then recharging the system to factory specifications, reassembling the condenser, and then testing the operation of the system. This process takes most of the day. The equipment was working as well as it can. We also installed a free thermostat ($250 value) as his old one was 6 degrees off at his request. We would be happy to check the system again but have not heard from the client."
