"We could not be more impressed with the Reformed team. We recently had them build a large Ipe deck over a hillside with an outdoor grill area. They were fast, neat, professional, and most importantly, they delivered a beautiful deck! We live in an older home and have worked with many contractors and none have impressed us the way Reformed did. They were also patient and accommodating as we changed our mind several times throughout the process and in the end, gave us a deck better than we expected. If you're trying to decide who you want to build your deck, save yourself some time and go with Reformed."

"Half my fence was done by someone else and rest by Parker Fence Co. Let's say you get what you pay for. Parker had to fix the previous work that was done. Also it started rain with hail and lightening. They took a break on my porch and as soon as it cleared up a little they got back out and finished the job! I was shocked to see so much get done in one day. (The other company took 3 days!) This was teardown to putting up a finished product. I super love the privacy I have now!"

"The process was seamless from the start. The entire team was professional, prompt and did an outstanding job with our new deck. Kimbra, our lead designer was a joy to work with and responded to all our question. There was one small area that needed to be touched up after completion and they completed it very quickly. I highly recommend!"

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

It is possible to pressure wash your deck, but it’s usually best to leave the work to a professional for two main reasons. First, power washers are expensive, and you can avoid high upfront costs by hiring a deck washing pro instead. Second, you must be careful to use the correct setting to avoid damaging your deck material. You can only clean soft woods like pine with a wide spray and a low pressure; otherwise, the water will leave unpleasant marks on your deck. Hard woods, composite material, and metal can stand up to increasingly higher water pressures.

A ground-level deck is a great idea for an outdoor space because it’s easy to access and doesn't require stairs or railings. You can install a ground-level deck near your home or farther away on your property. You can place a ground-level deck around a pool, fire pit, or near a view such as a lake, pond, or area of trees.

The best way to sand a deck is by cleaning it, sanding the boards and stairs with 60- or 80-grit sandpaper, and sanding the railings and posts with 80-grit sandpaper. You should sand in the direction of the wood grain to avoid damaging the timber. When sanding your deck, use medium pressure and aim for an even sand. Pressing too hard with a sander can damage decks, as most are softwoods.

Floating decks are a cost-effective and versatile option, but they come with some compromises. Since they sit on smaller footings instead of being deeply anchored, they’re more likely to shift over time, especially in areas with heavy rainfall or freeze-thaw conditions. Their low-to-the-ground design makes them more susceptible to moisture buildup and potential water damage.

Both deck footings and deck posts help prop up your deck. However, footings are the bottommost parts of a deck that touch the ground. They’re usually made of concrete. Posts are pieces of wood that attach to the top of the footings with brackets. They run upwards and connect to the underside of your deck to support its weight.
