Small jobs welcome

"Ed did a fantastic job installing wallpaper in our guest bathroom. The seams are invisible! He was very friendly, meticulous, and on time. I would choose Ed for any other wallpaper project I may have in the future!"

"The entire process went extremely well. Dan Pierce was our project manager and did a great job. He was on top of every aspect of our job,and was always very responsive. The crew we had was excellent. They were very professional, worked very hard, and did a great job. One aspect that I really appreciated was the crew always told us when they were finished for the day, and what time they would be back the following day. We had one or two minor spots that needed some touch up, and they were very responsive addressing these minor issues. Overall, it was a very positive experience, and I would highly recommend them."

"Highly recommend working with Damian! Had a great experience and he and his team did a fantastic job installing wallpaper for my nursery. We gave him just enough paper and he made it work beautifully and seamlessly (with very little waste to make it a work which we super appreciate!)."

"John & Mike showed up for estimate and job on time and communicated well. The jobs were done very well and for a reasonable price that included all materials and did a nice job of clean up. We will bring them back for some more painting outside as well."

"

They showed up around 9am to paint doors and baseboards on the second floor only.  By 4pm the two painters had the doors and frames painted (two coats) and said they had not even started the baseboards and nor would the baseboards be completed.  I had stated when scheduling this service that the baseboards were the number 1 priority then the doors next.  No walls were painted and I had already moved ALL the furniture, rugs, etc into the center of the bedrooms so they could get right to work. They got the painting done on the baseboards in the hallway and one of the four bedrooms.  Neither of the bathrooms were done.

On the day of the service, I was told that they usually do the doors first then baseboards second.  I said that was fine as long as everything was done today.  I want to make it clear that they were only working upstairs.  No work was done downstairs.  I'm not a painter but painting the doors upstairs should not take from 9am to 4pm.  Granted it was 12 doors total but seriously that should not take all day.  Also, the workers had their music playing and one guy was singing along quite loudly at times.  I was working from home and was distracted.

To be fair the work they did get done looked good.  There were a few spots on the doors with drip marks but at that point I was just glad to have something done.  And a few other issues with the quality of the work but after I spoke with the owner, he brought the painters back and they fixed those issues the same night.

I used an angies list deal and feel like they short changed me for that reason.  I was told that they usually use different equipment for painting doors but they didn't have it that day so they would have to use paint brushes.  The owner of the company had come to my house the week before the service took place to see what the project looked like so he was aware that doors were going to be painted and the condition of doors.  That same guy is the one who said they didn't have the right equipment.  If they knew that they would not be able to complete the doors and baseboards within that time frame, they should have said so.  I feel like if I had scheduled the service without the angies list deal (and paid full price), I would have gotten higher quality and more professional service.  It felt like they came out did half the work then expected me to pay full price for them to complete the remainder of the work.  If they can't afford to offer good service at that rate, they should not advertise their services for that price.

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

Wallpaper in bathrooms can last anywhere from one to 10 years, depending on what type was used, how well it was installed, and the measures in place to reduce moisture and humidity levels. Opting for a more durable variety and taking all the necessary protective measures will get you closer to that longer lifespan.

In most cases, it is not recommended to wallpaper over existing wallpaper, as the success depends on the type of paper already on the wall. While you might be able to cover non-coated wallpaper, you should never apply new wallpaper over a vinyl-coated one, which is more common. Doing so can lead to poor adhesion, resulting in bubbles, imperfections, and peeling. It can also trap moisture, potentially causing hazardous mold growth between the layers.

Even if the existing wallpaper is suitable, experts recommend applying only one new layer. Adding multiple layers (more than two total) can cause significant adhesion problems, leading to warping and bubbling. For the best results, the recommended approach is to remove the old wallpaper and all paste residue before hanging the new paper. If you are unsure about your wallpaper type, consider consulting a professional.

If you can already see the texture of the existing wallpaper through the layer of paint, then the texture could also come through the new layer of wallpaper. If that’s the aesthetic you want, then proceed. But if you want a smoother surface, you should either strip off the existing paint and wallpaper or hang a layer of liner paper before proceeding.

The average cost to install or hang wallpaper is around $575 per room or project, with typical prices ranging from $200 to $1,500. Costs can be higher for custom or luxury products. Since project size varies, it's often helpful to estimate labor costs per square foot, which generally fall between $1 and $7, with an average of $4 per square foot. The total cost depends on several factors, including the quality and type of wallpaper, the size and type of the room, and whether old wallpaper must be removed first. Opting for less expensive materials like peel-and-stick wallpaper or choosing to do the installation yourself can lower the overall cost. For the most accurate estimate, it is best to have a professional inspect the space and provide a quote.

Wallpaper lasts an average of around 15 years, but there is some variance. The type of wallpaper matters, as vinyl wallpaper tends to last the longest—sometimes 20 years or more—while a peel-and-stick wallpaper, which is the easiest to install for DIYers, will usually only last for around five years. Exposure to high humidity, smoke, and UV rays from sunlight can also limit the lifespan of your wallpaper, as can heavy traffic in the installation area.
