"We had a massive underground water leak. Kody of George plumbing oversaw the entire process including discovery of the leak location, excavation through cement and pipe replacement. We greatly valued his expertise when explaining options to us. The George office staff was prompt in replying to questions or concerns, and professional."

"The service went very well! Chris and Luis showed up on time, surveyed the property for necessary repairs, checked the water line pressure, and then gave us an estimate of the costs. We gave the go ahead and they began. Their work lasted almost 4 hours. Replacement parts required the digging out of the damaged heads and height extenders. Also, Chris recommended a smaller head replacement for one of the rotating heads as the difference in water pressure during operation didn't allow the other heads in the zone to have a sufficient amount of pressure. Chris recommended hidden line in our shrubbery be extended so it would cover the shrubbery better. The drip line controller head was broken and was replaced and the leaks in the line repaired. It was a thorough job done by professionals who knew what to do. Prior to finishing up Chris ran each of the 7 zones to demonstrate the fixes made and asked for any other changes that we thought were needed. All in all they did excellent work. By the time they finished, Chris was soaking wet from the waist down. The great news was that their work is warranted by Andy's for 1 year. Both my wife and I were very pleased with the outcome. The cost was a little more than I expected, but the result was excellent. The quality of work and the warranty made it all worthwhile."

"Revilla’s plumbing did a great job with locating the leak in my bathroom, repairing the leak and coordinating the remodel. Tim is very well connected and we were able to treat the affected area to prevent mold through a relationship vendor he trusts and does business with on a regular basis. Since my bathroom remodel, he has replaced my water heater, a water heater for my parents and some faucet replacements around my house. I trust Revilla’s plumbing will do the job right at a fair cost."

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

A plastic vapor barrier should completely cover your basement to prevent water from penetrating through the walls. This typically goes before installing insulation to prevent moisture from building up and becoming trapped on the inside of your insulation, where it can collect and lead to mold damage. Installing insulation after the vapor barrier allows for any moisture to exit the walls for better ventilation.

While a standard gutter system is widely considered the most effective way to prevent water damage to your home's foundation, several alternatives are available. These options can be used on their own in certain climates or as supplementary protection.

Common alternatives include:

  • Rain Chains: These are decorative chains that hang from the roof's edge, guiding rainwater to the ground.

  • Drip Edges: These metal strips are installed at the edge of the roof to direct water away from the fascia. While often used with gutters, they can be paired with a ground-level solution but are typically not sufficient on their own.

  • Rain Dispersal Systems: These systems work by breaking up the heavy sheet of water flowing off the roof, dispersing it over a wider area.

  • French Drains: This ground-level system uses a perforated pipe in a gravel-filled trench to collect and redirect water runoff away from the house.

  • Drip Paths: Placed directly below the roofline, these paths made of concrete, stone, or other materials prevent soil erosion and guide water away.

It's important to note that some alternatives like rain chains and dispersal systems may not be adequate in regions with heavy rainfall because they don't divert water away from the foundation as effectively as a full gutter system. Ground-based solutions like French drains can be very effective but are often more expensive and can affect your landscaping and curb appeal. Many experts recommend installing a full gutter system for maximum protection and using alternatives as supplementary measures.

Water leakage through window openings is much more common in older homes, but it can also create issues with window frames that are improperly installed. If left unattended, water buildup can cause damage to surrounding fixtures, lead to harmful mold, and compromise the architectural integrity of your home. The potential damage that a water leak poses makes investing in weather- and water-proofing your window frames entirely worthwhile.

No, you don’t want your crawl space to be wet because water and even moisture in the air under your home can attract insects and rodents, decrease your indoor air quality, increase your energy bills, promote mold growth, and even lead to structural damage. If you notice any signs of water or humidity in your crawl space, you should get the issues addressed immediately by contacting a professional. They can remove moisture and will know how to waterproof your basement to prevent ongoing problems.

Yes, you can finish a basement that leaks, as long as you address the leak first. Before finishing a basement, you’ll need to repair any cracks in the walls and waterproof the basement to prevent future leaks. It’s much harder to clean up a water leak from a finished basement than an unfinished one, so preemptively addressing any leaking areas prevents expensive repairs in the future.
