"We couldn't be more pleased with the added insulation in the attic above the garage. Only downside is that it's better done than the rest of the attic! The rest of the work replacing the insulation in water-damaged areas went very quickly. We will likely be bringing them back to do the rest of the attic."

"They recommended that I did not need roof insulation. Very honest and professional opinion and advised if they performed the insulation (since he determined my insulation was very good), I would not realize any benefit. I really appreciated that honest evaluation. Would recommend them to anyone needing insulation; they are not a fly by night firm and in explaining what they do and how they do it, separate themselves from the rest of the pack."

"My 85-year-old house needed new insulation after rodents got into the attic. I checked with several companies and Geo-Insulation offered the best results. Owner Tom Porter quickly evaluated the need, provided a quick, no-nonsense estimate, and explained clearly what would be done and what it would accomplish, There was no attempts to up-sale or over-promised. The price was fair and competitive. Tom and his crew arrived on time, added insulation and were done within 90 minutes, including cleanup. Tom even did the paperwork for the City Public Service Energy rebate for insulation and deducted it from the agreed price. Geo-Insulation is a veteran-owned business and Tom provided a small discount for veterans. I'm very pleased with the results and I highly recommend Geo-Insulation."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Yes, an automatic pool cover retains heat. It can act as a thermal blanket because the heavy vinyl traps heat underneath, keeping the water warmer than if there wasn’t a cover. Keeping the pool cover closed when the pool’s not in use can also help reduce water utilities and save on pool chemical costs because there won’t be as much evaporation.

Vapor barriers in attics are a bit outdated and most areas no longer recommend them for attic spaces. For vented attics, the best method is usually to install drywall and cover it with latex paint before attaching insulation fiberglass, cellulose, or foam insulation. When renovating an attic to use as a living space, a contractor can guide you on the best way to cover insulation.

Insulation can be made of cellulose, fiberglass, polyurethane, polystyrene, or mineral wool. Radiant barriers are often made of aluminum or other similarly reflective materials, but they will need to be paired with something else because they don’t provide heating benefits. Cellulose is among the most eco-friendly options and may be recycled when it’s past its shelf-life, whereas polyurethane and polystyrene both emit harmful compounds and will need to be handled with care during installation.

Unfortunately, pipes can freeze when exposed to prolonged freezing temperatures, whether or not you have installed insulation covers. Insulation covers, however, are still an excellent idea as they can reduce the chance of your pipe freezing by keeping the pipes closer to the temperature of the water inside the pipe.

Costs depend on insulation material, labor, accessibility, and whether existing insulation requires removal.
