"The basement king was a pleasure to work with. His knowledge is unmatched in the Texas area for sure. I received multiple quotes and talked to multiple companies and he was the best. He's passionate about his work and the manner in which it's done. If he says something, it happens. An added benefit was their cleanliness. Usually a job site of this size and complexity is a mess, but not with the basement kings. 10/10!"

"I am satisfied with the work done to remove the tree roots that buckled the driveway and the replacement of the driveway cement. During the demolition or when the boards were placed as molds for the cement, two irrigation pipes and a sprinkler head were broken. The job foreman told me but not the owner. The problem was solved after several days delay. The sprinkler head was placed too high, but I will add topsoil and plant sod and that should fix the issue. Being careful during demolition would not have created another problem. I would hire this company again but would be more aware."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Stair-step cracks along mortar joints indicate a clear need for masonry work. Conversely, bubbling exterior finishes require a stucco specialist. If you spot water running down interior block walls, inspect your flat roof first, as drainage issues cause indoor leaks in Laredo. Always address the root source of water intrusion before hiring a masonry professional to fix the resulting efflorescence or surface spalling on your property.

Helpful?

Start by documenting crack progression with a pencil and date to help professionals diagnose structural movement. After the Laredo monsoon season, safely scrub away white efflorescence with a stiff brush and plain water. Clear debris from your yard drains to keep pooling water away from the foundation. Never attempt DIY masonry work during the extreme summer heat, as mortar fails to cure properly in direct, intense sunlight.

Helpful?

Several types of professionals handle masonry work across TX. General contractors complete block and brick projects themselves. Specialty masonry contractors focus strictly on structural brick and stone projects. Stucco contractors manage exterior finishes and surface repairs. Concrete contractors build foundation walls, while tile specialists focus on decorative stonework. Hire a licensed professional with experience in regional building traditions to ensure your project withstands the local climate.

Helpful?

In Laredo, extreme heat causes surface-level deterioration like thermal cracking and spalling. Because the local caliche soil is highly stable, foundation-driven failures are rare. This makes repairing masonry work highly practical and efficient. Full replacement becomes necessary only for severe issues, such as prolonged water damage from flat roofs or structural impacts. Targeted repairs keep your brick and block walls strong against the intense TX weather.

Helpful?

Energy efficiency in Laredo relies heavily on thermal mass. Thick brick or block walls absorb daytime heat and release it at night, naturally reducing your cooling loads. For modern masonry work, request insulated concrete masonry units or recycled aggregate blocks. Contractors also use lime-based mortars that allow walls to breathe during humid monsoon seasons. These sustainable choices improve your home's comfort while meeting stringent TX energy codes.
