"Byron was nothing short of awesome! He came on time completed all of the tasks we asked of him and additional ones we thought of while he was here. His prices were more than fair as well! We already have him scheduled to come for another project on our new home! :-)"

"Likable, personable and they did a good job-- It looks wonderful. Only thing I would ding him on is communication-- he answered texts but voicemail is always full. A few times he said I he would be there at a given time and had to reschedule, However, considering he was sick he did come through."

"They strive to please. I had them replace baseboards in back bedroom; they found I had termites, so that will be treated promptly, April 10th. No matter the size of job, they make you feel like your work is as important as larger work."

"The entire work took around 3 weeks working on and off. Dennis Baker was a real pleasure to work with, and was really conscientious to ensure that the work was planned and done to my satisfaction. Dennis has a wide range of skills and I'll definitely be contacting him again as needed for future work."

"Leon is the best!! In my six years of property management I've never seen an apartment so dirty and demolished. Leon came the next day and worked endlessly until the job was done. Him and his team were very polite and friendly. (Despite the horror inside) They took out all of the trash, broken fixtures, and even the carpet. And then cleaned the whole apartment!! I would recommend his company to anyone."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

The best tool for cutting countertops depends on the type of countertop material. For some softer materials, like laminate (Formica) and butcher block, you can use a hand saw, but most experts recommend power saws like circular saws, since these make the job go faster and easier and give more even results. However, power saws and circular saws are dangerous if used incorrectly, and they can be so powerful that they damage or chip laminate, stone, and other types of countertops. For this reason, you should take safety precautions and use best practices to prevent damage.

While no countertop material is truly “heatproof,” granite countertops are extremely resistant to high temperatures. Some types of granite can withstand temperatures up to 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit. However, we don’t recommend placing hot pots and pans directly on granite countertops. Even if it doesn’t scar the granite, it may damage the sealant.

Concrete countertops should be sealed every one to three years, depending on the type of sealer used and the level of use your countertops get. For instance, hardworking kitchens will need yearly sealing. Sealing is important because it protects the surface from stains, moisture, and daily wear. Monitoring the countertop for signs of wear can help determine the ideal sealing schedule for your countertop.

Sealed concrete countertops stand up well to everyday kitchen mishaps, including spills and burns. However, to prevent burn marks from forming, it’s best to use a hot pad or trivet under pans rather than placing them directly on the countertop. Learn the pros and cons of concrete countertops to decide if this material is right for your kitchen.

The angle at which you cut countertops depends on the material, your intended outcome, and the location of the cut. For example, rather than cutting a straight 90-degree angle for internal corners, cut edges at a 45-degree angle to give a clean, professional look. For outside edges, most homeowners want squared-off sides, so 90-degree angles can make the most sense there. Because you want to get angles exactly right to minimize seams and eliminate the need for patching, be sure to measure several times before cutting and use the right equipment to get sharp, accurate angles.
