"We called this company to fix a leaking AC unit in our building, and they immediately pulled one of the oldest tricks in the book. The technician came out, took one look, and claimed ?the last guy did a bad job,? convincing our staff to let him replace a 4-inch section of PVC pipe for a ridiculous **$200**?even though that PVC was never the issue. In fact, the leak was coming from the pipe *directly below it*, which the PVC he ?fixed? was draining into. Clearly, he knew from the start that this PVC wasn?t the problem. Only after charging us did he conveniently point out that the actual issue was the pipe below?one they ?don?t handle? and would need a plumber for. This company had no intention of solving the real problem and was simply cashing in on unnecessary, pointless work. If you?re a business looking for honest, competent service, stay far away. They?re just using cheap, deceptive tactics to run up the bill without actually fixing anything."

Heating Oil questions, answered by experts

Most HVAC companies charge a flat service call fee of between $75 and $150, which includes traveling to your home and inspecting your system to find the underlying problem. Keep in mind that these prices only include diagnostics and the actual repairs will usually be billed separately. If you’re calling for routine service, the service call will be included in your inspection and tune-up, with the total sitting around $150. Your prices could be a little higher if you have a very large home with multiple condensers and air handlers, as inspections and servicing take longer.

There are three main types of heat pumps. An air-source heat pump system is the most common and has two parts—an indoor air handler unit and an outdoor heat pump unit. A ductless heat pump system functions similarly to an air-source heat pump system but doesn’t need ductwork to distribute the air. A geothermal heat pump system pulls heat from the ground to help heat your home.

Yes, geothermal heat pumps are worth the money. You can save about 70% on heating costs in the winter and around 50% on cooling costs in the summer with a geothermal heat pump compared to a traditional HVAC system. Over time, your savings on monthly utilities will pay for the cost of the geothermal heat pump installation. If you have an incredibly small yard, however, you may not have enough space for this type of system.

Geothermal systems provide energy efficiency, lower utility bills, and long-term sustainability with minimal environmental impact.

An evaporator or swamp cooler is a common alternative for small spaces. These coolers blow moist air into a space to help cool it down. They are more affordable than misters and use much less water. However, coolers will not have the same cooling effect as misters, cannot help plants survive the heat, and only reach a small area.
