"Dave Roundtree Handyman Services was great! Dave was able to provide same day service. His employee, Robert, was courteous & worked diligently. The project was more involved than first thought, so it took longer. But Robert was very patient & did a fine job. Dave’s prices are quite fair. I would use his company again!"

"Seems a bit difficult to choose the right service to write a review on but, this Service Pro performed dual projects I had. I think it takes someone older and experienced to have some integrity left. For many of the younger ones in the Service Industry....look out!! I would vouch for D.A. Bullock & Assoc. and my wife likes the fact the sink and door are fixed."

Caulking Services questions, answered by experts

In most states, handypeople do not need to be licensed to perform simple home repair tasks and smaller jobs. When projects exceed specific cost amounts, however, ranging from $500 in California to $50,000 in other states, some municipalities consider them to be contractors, meaning they need to be licensed. To learn if your handyperson should be licensed to work on your job, contact your local governing body or state contractors’ licensing board before starting any work.

Yes, you can use a dremel tool to cut plexiglass. Follow the instructions under “How to Cut Plexiglass with a Saw,” and use a dremel tool with a 561 bit instead of a saw.

A contractor specializes in a specific field. They often operate in teams where they have subcontractors to handle specialized problems. So if you have significant plumbing, drywall, or roofing issues, you’ll want to hire a contractor, as the job may require a team.

A handyperson is typically one person who works on whatever jobs come their way. You wouldn’t call a contractor to fix the hinges on cabinets or paint your room. Instead, a handyperson can handle all these issues, saving you from making multiple phone calls.

Most professional appliance removal companies will not expect a tip, but offering one is a good way to show appreciation for a job well done. A tip of 10% to 20% is a good idea if your professionals are working in the rain or snow, if they take extra care not to damage your walls and furniture in the removal process, or if they need to maneuver the appliance through tight spaces or up or down stairs to get it out of your home.

Before hiring a handyperson, it's important to ask several questions to ensure they are the right fit for the job. Key areas to cover include their experience, logistics, and job specifics.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • What kind of work do you specialize in?

  • How long have you been doing this kind of work?

  • Are you licensed and insured?

  • Do you have references?

  • Can you provide before-and-after photos of your work?

Estimates and Contracts:

  • Do you charge for estimates?

  • Will you provide a written estimate and contract?

  • Does the estimate cover both labor and materials?

  • How much do you expect materials to cost?

Project Details and Guarantees:

  • When can you start the job, and how long do you expect it to take?

  • Do you provide a guarantee for your work?

  • Will you handle cleanup and waste disposal after the job is finished?

  • Do you have any questions about the projects on my list?
