"SafeStreets Home Security was a lifesaver! They had to troubleshoot my 3 floor townhouse unit, requiring many trips up and down the stairs. Finally determined that I needed an entire new alarm system but had all the parts and equipment available. Helped me program the app and set my security codes."

Small jobs welcome

"From the moment I reached out to Wireless 4g Solutions, I knew I was in great hands. It has been a really long time since I’ve experienced customer service this wonderful. Their communication was absolutely top tier. Kept me informed, answered every question, and genuinely cared about my peace of mind. I am so incredibly happy with my new ADT products. Walking around my home now, I have this amazing sense of feeling completely safe and secure. Small businesses so often get overlooked. If you are looking for security services and want to support a team that treats you like a priority, I cannot recommend them highly enough."

"Customer service was excellent.  There was no pressure to upgrade or add-on anything.  The installer was very professional and patiently answered all of our questions.  This was initially to be a free upgrade and set up.  The cost was because we decided to add an additional keypad, smoke alarm and glass break sensor.  Each additional component is $100.  The entire system is wireless.

Home Security Systems FAQs, answered by experts

Thieves can open almost anything with enough time and the right tools, but they also prefer easy targets that are unlikely to get them caught. Forcing open gates is loud and difficult, and to be able to open one electronically requires extensive knowledge of the system, which most thieves don't have. Electric and other security gates are great deterrents because the thief will move to an easier target. If the thief is determined to enter your property, they will most likely find a different entrance point.

It depends on the type of sensor your home security system uses. If it’s a motion detector, any moving thing could set it off, from a roaming pet to a wind-blown curtain. Contact sensors would be triggered by the window being opened or moved. Also, be aware that any sensors placed too close to your vents could trigger false alarms whenever your heat or air conditioning is running.

Professional home automation services can include automation for nearly anything in your home, so the possibilities are endless. Some of the more common things homeowners use automation for include the following:

  • Heating and cooling for automatic comfort

  • Security cameras and emergency call systems

  • Door and window sensors to detect opening, closing, and break-ins

  • Solar system automation to maximize energy savings

  • Automatic door locks

  • Garage door openers

  • Speaker systems

  • Lighting

  • Appliances

  • Smoke and CO detectors

  • Blinds and other window coverings

  • Lawn irrigation systems

  • Water monitoring

This is the topic of much debate, though there is no “better,” as it depends on personal preferences. Some of the components of a wireless system keep working when the power goes out, as they are battery-powered. On the other hand, a wireless system typically connects to your modem and router. Wired systems use landlines to communicate, which never go out on their own unless they’re physically cut.

Your best bet is to install a bracket that secures to the bottom of the unit and the side of your house. You should still secure the AC unit in the open window using some of the other methods already listed, but a bracket is best to ensure that it stays put—both during operation and in case of an attempted theft.
