"The crew was a bit sloppy when Joe wasn't around, but he had them return to re-do a few places and clean off areas where the concrete/mortar should not have been placed. There wasn't anything than couldn't be fixed."

"Jamie was great. Always responsive and got the job done in a timely manner. He’s helped me figure out other problems I’ve had as well as putting in a river pump. Will be using him for anything I need in the future."

"The fence they installed was great. They matched the two other fences this one was joining. The painting was a struggle due to communication. They did have some areas that needed to be corrected and when I let them know I was ready for that they came in and corrected them.

"The owner, Eduardo Hernandez, did a good job designing the porch, but that's about all he did. He did not show up on the days the work was done, and we had to pressure him with lots of phone calls to complete the job. The workers did a good job. I love the porch, and I'm glad to have it. I wonder whether we paid too much, but granted it was A LOT of concrete (the house is 3700SF). I would be perfectly happy, having forgotten the pressure we had to put on him to respond to our requests to finish, if it weren't that one major request did not get done, and no discount was provided to offset the miss.
I specifically asked for drains in the concrete since gutter spouts end near the house and now onto the concrete. No drains. So, instead, he provided plastic gutter spouts that run across the concrete. It's an eyesore. He said that water draining onto the concrete is not a bad thing. To me, that doesn't matter. Installing drains was in the contract, but could not be installed after-the-fact.
One year later, I am still enjoying the back and front porch, but the stain on the hot, West-facing front porch is chipping. The back porch is largely covered by trees and gets little sun, so I'm counting on it not chipping. Then I will be upset. The front chipping is not good, since it's at my front door. However, I don't think I'm up to dealing with Mr. Hernandez about it. It's stressful.

Fountains questions, answered by experts

Natural swimming pools are designed to deter pests, including mosquitoes. While any body of water can potentially attract pests, the natural filtration system keeps the water clean and constantly moving. Mosquitoes specifically are attracted to standing water, so the continuously circulating water in a natural pool makes it an inhospitable environment for them.

Because frogs require fresh water for survival, they can die from repeated exposure to swimming pool chemicals. Chlorine dehydrates frogs, which can lead to their deaths. To ensure frogs don’t hang out in your pool for long periods, safely remove them once you spot them in your pool and install a frog log so they can easily hop out on their own.

Deep clean your koi pond at least once a year to keep your fish healthy and your pond in good shape. Water testing, debris removal, and partial water changes should be performed weekly. Seasonal professional service will ensure everything is clean and functioning properly.

Seeps and springs form when groundwater reaches the earth’s surface. The main differences between them are the amount of water and the flow rate. Seeps are smaller than springs and consist of water that’s stagnant or flows slowly. Springs contain more water and flow more quickly.

You have several options for your pond by getting your yard ready for the winter. You can winterize your koi pond by ensuring it’s at least 5 feet deep so it doesn’t freeze completely, installing a pond heater or aerator and having it run at all times, and installing a deicer if temperatures are dangerously low for an extended period. You can also choose to shut down your pond for the winter by removing all the wildlife in it and bringing it indoors, cleaning out the filter and pump, and then covering the pond with a tarp.
