"Jason came out and viewed the service I needed and gave me his bid; which I accepted. Maria helped get an appointment for services that fit both my schedule as well as Jason’s. Jason prepared the room for his work. He was meticulous with his work. Certain drywall textures, like sand and sometimes popcorn, can be smoothed by applying skim coats, sanding the walls, or chipping away the texture. However, it’s worth considering removing the texture and starting with a blank canvas. Smoothing textured walls requires a lot of sandpaper and elbow grease and can take longer than just outright removing the texture.

The cost to texture drywall depends on whether you want to do the work yourself or hire a professional. The cost of the drywall mud is far lower than labor costs for applying it. The labor cost to spray drywall compound onto a wall is between $0.80 and $1.50 per square foot, while you’ll pay between $1.50 and $2 per square foot for the labor to apply the texture by hand.

There are a few ways to figure out if your walls are plaster or drywall, but the pushpin method is probably the easiest option. To try it, choose a part of your wall where you can insert a pushpin or thumbtack without leaving an obvious mark. If it goes in easily, you have drywall. But if the wall is tough to penetrate, that’s plaster.

If your premixed drywall mud is dried out or has begun to set in the bucket, you may be able to revive it by adding warm water and stirring. However, the first and most important step is to scrape off any hard, dried bits of drywall that may have accumulated toward the top of the container and throw them away because they will not easily reconstitute back into the drywall mud mix.
