Customers say: Quality work

"Curtis Kuhn is a master craftsman. He converted my old family cedar chest into a beautiful heirloom piece for my family. The cedar chest was in really bad shape, and Curtis made it remarkably lovely and like new again. He takes great pride in his work, and his prices are reasonable. I recommend Kuhn Custom Woodworking to anyone who needs any kind of woodwork done."

"Couldn't be happier with the work that Urban Legend Woodworking do for me. I had some water damage due to a leaking dishwasher and they quickly repaired all the damaged wood quickly and for a fair price. I would highly recommend them."

"We are SO very pleased! The design, quality of materials, and overall professionalism was perfect. Our existing builder-grade materials were removed and disposed of, and we were left with a beautiful closet - wish we had done this earlier!"

"Purchased deal of the day for a patio design. Arrived 30 minutes late without a courtesy call. I was hoping they would provide their own fresh ideas. They asked what ideas we had, he sketched it and made a few modifications, and a few suggestions. It took a little over a week for them to send the patio plan. We asked for the cost to have the work done and never heard back."

"My husband and I would highly recommend this company. Scott was a good listener concerning what we wanted and gave suggestions to us. He was so easy to work with. He communicated at least weekly to let us know what was happening with our project and was right on target with the timeframe given. When any work was done he was here to supervise. The work done was excellent and of high quality. Scott is very professional, trustworthy and personably. We are so pleased we found this company."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

No, beams are the primary load-bearers for flooring or roofing systems, and they distribute the weight of the structure to your foundational supports, while joists bear far less weight and distribute their loads to the beams. Beams are usually thicker and longer, and they have support posts or foundation walls beneath them for support.

Board and batten is a type of wainscotting that uses wider boards that are placed vertically, and it has a much more rustic aesthetic than wainscotting. Common wainscotting styles are raised-panel, flat-panel, and beadboard. Wainscotting is more intricate and will typically use more elegant, subtle trims compared to the more farmhouse-inspired boards of board and batten styles.

It is not recommended to cut or drill into LVL (laminated veneer lumber) beams. As major structural components of a home, their composite structure can be compromised by alterations, which can weaken them and lead to cracking over time. If you must make modifications to an LVL beam, it is crucial to consult a structural engineer or general contractor first. A professional can advise on whether it's safe and provide specifics on the appropriate bit size, depth, and directionality for any necessary drilling.

Building involves setting foundation posts, framing with durable wood, adding roofing support, and protecting from elements with water-resistant finishes.

The pro you need to hire to build your shed depends on the shed you purchase. A local handyman or general contractor can help build a prefab shed for you. However, if you’re looking for a custom shed, contacting a shed builder near you is the best option. Make sure you get quotes from 3 pros to decide on the best pro for your job.
