Professional well contractors may use electromagnetic mapping to look for places with a high likelihood of water. Water access can vary significantly, even on the same property, so it can be difficult to know where to drill if you don’t have specialized tools to look for water.

A land survey gives you information about the property boundaries, easements on the plot, dimensions, and, in some cases, topographical information. Land surveys don’t technically expire. While you’re not required to file survey documents, it’s a good idea to do so.

Including excavating to expose the test site, filling the hole with water, and monitoring it while it drains, you can expect the test to take between four and eight hours total. It’s possible that you’ll get the results the same day, but some companies may take a few days to get official results.
