"They first brought in and attempted to install the wrong (lower level) model but the job boss caught it and they brought in the correct one. Then they couldn't get the thermostat to work but came back the next day and got it working. The next week the thermostat read 3 degrees higher than the set temp, next day it was a 4 degree difference, next day the screen went blank. They came out within an hour and fixed it but didn't seem to know what was wrong. Seems like the problem is with the American Standard product though. Cuccos was quick to fix the problems and very polite and clean. But also, the Angie's List page says they give a 10% discount to seniors and I didn't get that - when I asked, instead the owner offered 5 years free maintenance."

"I paid $50 for 20 point a/c tune up. The technician was polite and on time but was unable to replace freon or clean overflow drain. He said that the unit was installed backward and he couldn't reach the line to clean it out and couldn't change the freon because it was already contaminated. I'm not sure how true any of that is because I've had other a/c people in before to do routine maintenance and none of them ever mentioned these issues and it seems like something they would notice. So basically he could not do any of the tune up but did say that I needed a new interior unit. I thought maybe he was just trying to sell me a new unit but asked to have sales call me with a quote for a new unit anyway. They never called so the visit really was not helpful. I basically received no tune up and was told that I needed a new unit but also never received a quote for new unit, etc.

"At my preventative a/c checkup was when I was told of the air leakages, done by a Angies List recommendation. The tech determined my unit was decreasing the intake to an outtake of 23 degrees, output temp was 62 degree. Told me about the ducts needed caulking as I was send a lot of cool air to the roof. I called Sam when they offered a coupon to repair ducts. Sam and crew sealed the air leaks at the plenum and the inspection door with duct caulking. Informed me any air leaking from the ducts were not repairable and the duct work, 39 years old, needed to be replaced. Additionally my ducts were connected properly allowing some rooms to receive more air than other. He gave me a quote on new duct work which including fixing the plenum/duct configuration. It was $2000 less than the a/c tech had quoted. Sam and I took temperature measurements at the registers in each room. Advised me to change my filter to allow better air flow. I did. I took register measurements the next day and determine several degree temperature improvement at each register. The floor intake and the nearest register shows a closer match allowing the a/c to work less maintaining the set temperature. I feel the repair work improved my a/c system and extended it life. It is cooling to the set temperature quicker. This should show up in my next utility bill. Will not be replacing the duct work until the a/c unit dies."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

A furnace is a big unit where gas, heating oil, or electricity heats the air. The warmed air is then pushed back out through ducts and vents.

A boiler uses electricity, heating oil, or gas to heat water that is pushed into the room through a radiator. This is one of the oldest and most effective ways to heat a house, but radiators can also be unsightly and leave hot and cold spots in the room.

Heat pumps use a refrigerant to move heat from outside into the house and return it to the room through ducts and vents.

Most home boilers will need an expansion tank. That’s because these boilers are closed-loop systems, where the water is trapped. An expansion tank is needed when the boiler heats the water and it expands, allowing air to condense in the tank to make room for the water. Other types of boilers don’t use an expansion tank, such as traditional steam boilers, but these aren’t as common. And hot water tanks may be able to use a pressure release valve instead. When in doubt, call in a pro to take a look.

Yes, you can build a sunroom addition to your home despite living in a cold climate. Make sure to use high-quality insulation and windows and to supplement with sufficient heating from your HVAC system. The windows in the sunroom allow enough natural light into the room to help heat it most times without having to use the furnace. Even a small electric fireplace can heat the sunroom well enough.

Chilled water HVAC systems use water instead of traditional components and refrigerants. They're more common in commercial settings than residential ones but are slowly being adopted by some homebuilders to cool homes. As the name implies, the system keeps the water chilled at 40 degrees and circulates it through water coils. The water absorbs the heat from your home and drains outdoors. Condo apartments are more likely to have chilled water HVAC than single-family homes because this system is designed to cool several rooms or large areas individually.

It can take anywhere from four hours to three days to replace a boiler with a new one. How long your particular boiler installation takes will depend on whether you need a gas line installed and if you’re switching to a new boiler system.

Replacing a combination boiler or standard boiler with the same system should only take four to six hours. Meanwhile, switching from a conventional boiler system to a combination boiler system could take a few days.
