"Mr. and Mrs.McDanial are super good professionals and very trustworthy. We asked them to fix, paint, renovate the inbuilt kitchen furniture, fix the plumbing and electricity on the back pattio. We were pleased with how they did everything. They did a great job! We intend to use their great service in the future. I would definitely recommend them."

"Brandon and Cruz completed a number of small projects, including caulking a leaky roof vent and two leaky windows, installing a door threshold, repairing a ceiling drywall crack, and replacing an exterior wood handrail. All done with attention to detail and excellent results! They are professional, friendly, and diligent. I recommend these two and look forward to working with them again."

I enjoy working I started painting with my family at 5 years old stuck with that for a while. Then went to another company and got more experience in a different trade. I am willing to travel my goal next year is to be near Dallas but will travel back and fourth still. "The team from Sunlite Exteriors was fantastic - beginning with the team that took the measurements for the estimate, the follow up from the owner and the crew that performed the installation and painting. First - the ladies that took the measurements actually took time to measure accurately and took plenty of pictures. It was a refreshing experience compared to the guy from the big box store that barely wrote down anything and gave us an estimate on scrap paper.. These ladies were professional! Second - Bob, the owner, sent the estimate and called to follow up. He was patient and helpful, answering all my questions about the siding options. Third - the quote was excellent. We obtained four estimates and Sunlite Exteriors was by far the best value. Fourth - the team that installed the siding and did the painting was great. They showed up on time everyday, cleaned up after themselves daily and pointed out areas that needed repairing that we weren't aware of until the old siding was removed, and they were able to perform those repairs. Bob visited the work site several times to make sure everything was going well. Overall, everyone we dealt with at Sunlite Exteriors was professional and experienced. We would definitely hire them again if we needed their services again!"

Deck Repair FAQs, answered by experts

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.

A wood deck requires annual cleaning and regular inspections for loose or broken boards, nails, and screws. It should be refinished by applying a stain or sealer every two to three years to protect the wood from water damage, rot, mildew, and sun fading. The exact frequency can depend on the climate and the deck's exposure to sun and moisture. If your deck is painted, it will need repainting approximately every 10 years. Signs that your deck needs refinishing include faded, splintering, or warping boards.

Trex states that its Trex decking is an eco-friendly composite material made of 95% recycled or reclaimed materials (including plastic and wood), making it a sustainable brand of choice. According to the company, Trex is one of the largest plastic bag recyclers in the U.S., with each 500-square-foot Trex deck containing about 140,000 recycled plastic bags.

In most cases, your deck will need some form of deck footing to hold it in place, preventing moisture from rotting your wood and decreasing your deck’s lifespan. Concrete deck blocks are the most common type of footing for floating decks. Some homeowners use ground-level deck footings. For added security, consider digging and laying your ground-level footings below ground.

Decks are generally more expensive to build because they require elevating and railings. The difference between decks and patios is that decks are elevated, while patios are usually on the ground level. Plus, decks are usually made of wood and need more maintenance than most patios. However, decks and patios serve the same purpose, providing outdoor space for you to enjoy.
