"I do apologize for the misunderstanding in the spring. I found where Matt came out to give you a quote but you asked for the tech to come back and locate the exact pinpoint location of the leak before you would allow salesman to give you price. I see we sent the tech back out the next day to do just that. When Matt asked the Tech if he was supposed to call you back he was told no you said you would call us. We try not to be "pushy" and make consumers feel pressured to hurry up and buy from us so Matt waited for you to contact him. Summers can be crazy here and we are human so occasionally things fall between the cracks. I assure that is not the norm. If we in any way, left you feeling we were not interested in your business then I apologize deeply as that is never our intent. I am glad we worked past this and you gave us a second chance as I see we did install an new coil and duct work on 12/17/14. Thank you for sticking with us. Our customers mean everything to us and we really try hard to keep them happy."
I live in Wisconsin and my elderly mother and sister live in Texas. I have a separate Angie?s List account for them. Below is my mother?s explanation (in her own words) of her recent experience with a local Baytown, Texas business. I must say that she is always very reluctant to give negative reviews ? she only wants to say nice things. This situation really had an impact on her.
My husband and children and I moved to Baytown, Texas in 1972. Ainsworth & Co. Air Conditioning and Heating was highly recommended to us by some of our neighbors. We were always pleased with the service from Ainsworth! In 2009 I moved up to Wisconsin to live by my son and his wife. (My husband was deceased.) In 2010 I moved back to Baytown. I renewed service with Ainsworth. Everything was going well.
The end of June 2013 I noticed a leaking from my attic (A/C unit is in the attic) outside my bedroom window. I had never observed this before!
I called Ainsworth and explained to the man who answered the phone about the leaking. He assured me that there was nothing to worry about. He also said that due to the high humidity this was perfectly normal. I took his word for it.
I went to a family reunion in Ohio July 4th -7th. When I returned to Baytown I was horrified to see a huge pile of the ceiling which had fallen on my bedroom floor (from the attic where the A/C is).
I called Ainsworth & Co. again and told the lady who answered what had happened while I was in Ohio. I also told her about my calling prior to my trip. I told the lady at Ainsworth that I had asked my next door neighbor to go up in the attic and check out the situation. He told me that the drip pan was overflowing and there was a lot slime in the drip pan.
I have always had a spring and fall checkup. I had had the spring check up on 4/15/13.
I told the lady at Ainsworth what the man at Ainsworth had told me when I first noticed the water dripping from the attic. This lady told me that this problem is not unusual due to the humidity. I have lived in Texas for 50 years and I have never had this problem!
I was very devastated and hurt!! I never received an apology from Ainsworth, much less an offer to help with the cost of repairing the ceiling!
"A common misconception about preventative maintenance is that it is a cure all. Drain lines pose a unique set of problems. The main drain line generally ties into a vent stack which then ties into plumbing system for the house. What we use to "blow out" these lines is generally sufficient to clear the A/C line. However if a problem develops in the vent stack or elsewhere in the plumbing system this generally will not resolve this. As we are not licensed plumbers, the State of Texas does not allow us to touch any part of the home's plumbing system, except the A/C main and secondary drain lines. If a problem does arise in the plumbing system it can cause the main A/C drain to stop flowing and back up into the main pan. It will then overflow into the secondary pan which sits under the unit and flow out of the secondary drain line. The secondary line usually drains outside of the home so that it will alert the homeowner to a problem. The average system produces up to 8 gallons of water a day. We performed Ms. Rhoads A/C check up on April 15, 2013. So for nearly 90 days her drain lines worked fine. That could amount to over 700 gallons of water that moved through those lines before her problem arose. As for calling in and the "man" in the office telling her it was just normal condensation, I can't really address that. We do not have a man that answers the phone during normal business hours and I can’t find a record of her calling in after hours. I am not disputing her clam that she spoke to someone. I can only say that the response we train our employees to give when someone calls in with water dripping out of the secondary drain line is to explain to them that the water dripping is an indication that the primary drain line is stopped up. We recommend that the customer turn the system off to stop all water production and have an A/C company or licensed plumber look at it. I am by no means saying that she is not telling the truth. If anything I believe that it is possible that a miscommunication may have occurred. If the person she spoke to misunderstood her description of the problem and thought she was referring to the copper suction line from the condensor into the side of the house, then yes it is very normal for that to "condensate” or "sweat". The hotter the outdoor temp is the more that line will sweat. Again I cannot attest to who Ms. Rhoads spoke to or what was said. Unfortunately the first I heard of her being dissatisfied with our service was when I was notified by Angie's list of this post on 11/11/13. I have tried my best to police the employees to see if anyone remembers talking to her but after 4 months and hundreds of calls, no one remembers this particular call. I feel terrible that Ms Rhoads feels slighted in any way, and I wish I would have had the opportunity to address this with her at the time it happened. I feel sure that I would have been able to resolve this matter if I had been given to chance."
We sucked it up and waited until Wednesday (meanwhile, the temps had gotten into the 90s by now). Another tech showed up at 1:30 pm and was as rude as you can imagine. He would never make eye contact with me and kept going between texting on his phone and having a halfway coherent conversation with me about the issues that he found. He kept mumbling about an evaporator coil that may have a leak but his company would have to charge $800 but if it were still under warranty then I would need to get the coil and then maybe they could come back at some point in time to replace it. I asked again if they could provide me with ANY relief in the form of a fan or portable unit until the part came in and he looked at me like I asked him for a million dollars!
He told me that there was nothing more he could do and to sign his paperwork and wait for a call back from the warranty company (Old Republic...which is a whole other Angie's List negative review that I need to make!).
So Old Republic called me and said that the parts are still under warranty and that I needed to call Lennox to get the parts and that I should also get them to cover the labor and the case was closed in their eyes. Way to go, Old Republic!!!
I called Lennox and was told that they only send parts to authorized dealers and installers, not just any one.
I then went to look at my air handler in the attic and noticed a sticker from Ainsworth & Co and decided to give them a call. I explained the whole story and the lovely lady on the other end basically told me that the previous home owner had an extended warranty and that they could come out the same day and take care of me!
Wouldn't you know it, Tracy showed up 20 minutes later and had the cool air blowing 20 minutes later. He basically patched the issue temporarily (a good 2 weeks worth of cool air) until they could get the new evaporator coil in and then they would come back to finish the job.
Talk about fantastic customer service. I even went ahead and signed up for their annual maintenance plan.
So glad the previous owners used this gem of a company to install their new system!!!
