"Ed Riley is extremely knowledgeable about what causes lighting and how to protect from it. He explained to me which and how structures develop static electricity that lead to lighting discharges in a way that the physics made sense to me. They were also reasonably priced and kept their word. Definitely recommend them."

"Honest family business that does outstanding work, quickly? How can you top that. He explained a lot about lightning and the various dangers. Given my tall, metal roofed home in a wooded setting, I needed lightning protection. I've never had a problem in 23 years, until the past 3 months. The frequency and intensity of electrical storms is increasing. I had two close calls (at the expense of over $1,000 of electronics (that I had plugged into expensive surge protectors!) With something as important as lightning protection, go with experience. Red, White, and Blue has that!"

"I called R & K because I wanted to use angie's list and make a good decision. I saw that there were already two reviews for this electric company already. When I called, the secretary was very professional and made sure that I reached the electrician. He had to call me back, but it wasn't but only 5 minutes until he called me back. He asked me what the problems were that I was having and told me exactly what he could do and how much it would cost. He even asked me to call the store where I was buying the oven just to make sure that the plug he would install would be the right one. He asked when I needed him to come out. I told him that I needed him to be at my house in 2 1/2 hours. He told me that he couldn't, but he worked with another liscenced electrician that would work with me. Within 5 minutes the electrician he was referring to called me back and told me that he would be right over. He was there on time and promptly got to work. He showed me how to do some other odd jobs I needed done that were not necessarily electrical in nature and even let me borrow his tools so I could do them! Insane! The whole job took him a little over three hours. He gave me a bill and made sure that I was happy with the work he did. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. His name was Milton."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Let them know exactly what type of job you need them to do, and be as specific as possible to get the most accurate estimate. A photo of your project might help them better understand your needs. Ask what kind of prep you should complete before they visit and what kind of cleanup to expect after the visit. Finally, ask how long the project usually takes.

First, check the current electrical code in your area to ensure spaces you’re considering meet the requirements. After that, your outlet’s location is up to you. If you’re moving it to hide wiring, you may want to move it in a spot that will also be hidden from view, such as behind a media center or table. As long as you meet the spacing guidelines set by electrical codes, you should be able to pick any spot in your home for an outlet.

Yes, wires are still hot, even if the light switch is off. The only way to ensure the wire is no longer live and that you can work with it safely is to open your circuit breaker, locate the breaker for the outlet you’re working with, and turn off the breaker for that outlet.

Yes, a bad switch can cause other outlets not to work. If the switch is part of a circuit that controls multiple outlets, a fault in the switch can disrupt the entire circuit. It can happen if the switch is wired incorrectly, has a loose connection, or is damaged. Fixing or replacing the faulty switch can often restore power to the affected outlets

Outdoor outlets should be at least 15-amp, but preferably 20-amp. The exact rating will depend on the electrical load of the devices that will be plugged into the outlet and the capacity of the circuit. It's important not to overload the circuit, which can cause safety hazards such as tripped breakers or electrical fires. In general, a circuit rated for at least 20 amps is recommended for outdoor outlets, while each outlet should be rated for at least 15 amps.
