"I was asked to check on my families farm property while visiting Dallas. I drive to east Texas and saw it in disarray. I extended my stay and looked for companies to clear the property on short notice. Scott came gave me a very reasonable estimate. By the end of the week he brought his crew, equipment, and they cleared and cleaned my families property in a day. They were very knowledgeable and helpful. I would recommend them to anyone and plan on using them to maintain the property moving forward. Great job!"

"Excellent job! Mr. Hicks is very safety oriented and obviously has years of experience operating. From the excavation to the finishing touches and leveling the gravel, it could not have gone better. I will definitely be calling him again and I highly recommend him for whatever you’re needing from excavation, clearing, he even put in a new spillway and raised the water level on my pond. Thanks again sir."

Small jobs welcome

"I hired Mr. Hagen and his team to clear a little over 10 acres and fix a pond dam for me. I am happy to say I was so pleased with the results. They were awesome at communicating and providing details and updates of the work they were doing. My land has never looked better!!"

"I was so greatly impressed with every aspect of this company! They went the extra mile for me and probably could’ve charged me double what they did. But even though the job was more than expected, they kept the price as stated and worked hard until it got done just right. I highly recommend these pros!"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can install a trench drain if you already have concrete in your yard or garden. While it can complicate some aspects of the job and slightly run up the cost, it is doable. Residential trench drains can be easily retrofitted to outdoor areas with concrete without having to remove excessive amounts of your patio, pool area, or decorative walkways.

You can bury underground electrical wire six inches deep—but only if you use a rigid metal electrical conduit. For rigid, non-metallic conduits, bury the wire at least 12 inches deep. If using an underground feeder cable rated for direct burial, you'll need to place it at least 18 inches deep, as it has no conduit for extra protection.

Most residential basements are 8 to 10 feet deep. You can dig deeper depending on building codes, but it does become more difficult. You’ll likely need to install stronger foundation walls and additional supports to handle the increased load. Depending on the water table, you may also need a water management system. Clay soil can support a deeper foundation than sandy soil. A structural engineer will be able to tell you the maximum, feasible depth.

The rules and regulations regarding groundwater use vary between states. To find out if you can dig a well on your property, you’ll have to consult these regulations, address any compliance requirements, and get the appropriate permits. It’s also important to check that your intended location has the right geology and water table to support a well.

Because decomposed granite is a durable material, a crushed rock or gravel base is optional as long as the DG is properly installed and compacted. However, installing a base is a good idea because it will ensure proper drainage and stability and act as a weed suppressant (although you may still occasionally have to pull weeds). Installing an adequate base can also increase the durability of driveways and walkways. If you forego the paver base or gravel underneath, line the area with landscaping fabric to avoid weeds.
