"We had Danny install 4 electrical boxes to be used for our old ceiling fans, and install some conduit around wiring. Danny was extremely professional, and the quality of work was exceptional. Danny was communicative throughout the entire process, even taking time to explain how he wired each room. Danny was very punctual and was very careful about cleaning and making sure the rooms he worked in were left in the same (or better) condition that he entered them in. We will absolutely be calling Danny for future work in our home! 10/10 would recommend!"

"Because of eccentricities in the original construction, he had to work around the problems.  He was fast and knowledgeable.  I only wish that I had my new bulb ready since I had problems inserting one of them, but that's no reflection on them!"

"Mike was the technician.  He arrived on time and was friendly, polite and professional.
I wanted 4 light switches changed and a can light changed to a regular light fixture.  i had all of the materials.  He quoted $845.00.  Ouch!  I said that was very high for relatively routine work.  I asked how much just to change the light switches.  He said $100.00 each.  I wanted them done this week, so reluctantly, I had him do them.  However, I declined to pay almost $400.00 more to change the light fixture.
Given some of the Angie's List specials of $75 -$89 for installing a ceiling fan, I believe On Time is way too expensive for simple tasks that took a few minutes each.
Mike was very good to work with, but I will not use On Time Electric, Inc. again.

"Colvin Electric went above and beyond our expectations. I will call them for all our electrical needs. They installed ventilation fans for two bathrooms that were whispering real quiet, exactly what we asked for. They were on time and courteous, they stayed until the job was complete. They also installed light fixtures. They obtained permits, and they met the inspector there and made sure that everything was to our expectations and to the electrical inspectors expectations as well. I will call on Colvin Electric for all our electrical needs. The entire staff was courteous and helpful. They helped me to locate other contractors for work that did not apply to them. Thank you, Colvin Electric, we could not have done it without you."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Essential tools for ceiling fan installation include a ladder, screwdriver, pliers, wire strippers, and a circuit tester. If the ceiling is angled or features unique configurations, ensure the availability of a compatible mounting bracket.

If you’re replacing an old fixture with a ceiling fan, you usually won’t need a permit, but if your electrician runs new wiring for the fixture, you likely will need a permit. Building permits are necessary in most municipalities if you’re making changes to your electrical system, so even if you have partial wiring run to the area and need new wiring installed for added functionality, you’ll probably need a permit. Your electrician should be able to let you know if you need one, and they’ll typically file the paperwork for you.

Many ceiling fan-rated electrical boxes tend to be made of metal. However, some electrical boxes may also be made of heavy-duty plastic that is reinforced with metal support structures. It may also have an attachment that connects directly to a ceiling joist. If you are ever ensure, consult with a licensed professional to get their insight on best practices and whether the installation is a safe one.

Ceiling fans can be a great way to cool your home without the expensive utility bill of running an air conditioner. Plus, ceiling fans can sometimes run in both directions, pushing hot air down in winter and pulling cold air up in summer. With that said, air conditioning might be the only thing that helps if you live in a very warm climate.

The direction you want your ceiling fan to move in depends on the season you’re in. During summer, you want it to move counterclockwise to produce a cooling downdraft. During winter, you want it to move clockwise to circulate warm air throughout the room.
