"Bought 41 acres and they cleared a pad site for our building - but while doing that they found a pond. They cleared and surged up the culvert pipe and made the pond pour new focal points in our project"

"We needed an exposed gas pipe covered in our pasture and contacted Rockin B Land Services who responded promptly. Devin came out to evaluate the situation and gave us the estimate and his plan. He was here promptly on the scheduled day covered the pipe and graded the area so it flows naturally with the pasture and the runoff. We are extremely pleased and will have other projects in the near future."

"This young man did an excellent job fixing my water draining in my front yard. His swells are very unnoticeable but effective and I think that’s what makes good excavation. I would’ve guessed he’s been doing this way longer that he told me. This man is barely getting started, thank you!"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

No, you typically cannot use metal detectors to find your sewer line. Most sewer lines are made of non-metallic materials such as PVC, clay, or cast iron, which are not detectable by standard metal detectors. Metal detectors are designed to locate metallic objects, so they won't be effective for identifying the path of a non-metallic sewer line. To locate your sewer line accurately, it's best to use other methods.

The rules and regulations regarding groundwater use vary between states. To find out if you can dig a well on your property, you’ll have to consult these regulations, address any compliance requirements, and get the appropriate permits. It’s also important to check that your intended location has the right geology and water table to support a well.

The rules for trenching and excavation include setting up and following safety protocols, learning how to use tools and machines properly, and ensuring there is a safe exit for all workers. Keep heavy equipment and materials away from the edge of the hole or trench. Call the 811 dig line before starting any excavation or trenching project to ensure you don’t hit any electrical or gas lines.

A perc test can take anywhere from one to eight hours to complete. The total time depends on factors like the amount of excavation required, the depth and width of the holes, and whether multiple test holes are needed. For a single hole, the process of filling it with water and monitoring the drainage rate usually takes less than an hour. Professionals can often complete the entire test in a single day. While it's possible to get results the same day, some companies may take a few days to provide the official report.

It takes one hour to dig a 10-foot trench by hand. Use a trenching shovel with a sharp tip and a long head. Plan for more time if your soil is heavy or rocky. Consider renting a trencher if you’re digging a long or deep trench or if you have challenging soil or terrain.
