"Last October, my sister, an elderly veteran living alone, contracted Genie Bath Systems to remodel her master and guest baths. She was diagnosed cancer and passed before the remodel was complete. Which, to be fair as we were not able to work with Genie while attending to my sister. The contract was expensive. Very expensive. The cost of the remodel is close to 1/4th the value of her home. I noticed there were issues with the remodel that showed a surprising lack of attention to detail. Genie sent people to address the issues twice. Yet issues remain. My calls to my contact at Genie are now being ignored. Also, the only document I have for the remodel is the contract my sister signed. It is not detailed. I have and continue to ask for a breakdown of the cost. An estimate or work order. This request is also being ignored. I am disappointed and have to wonder why Genie will not provide this information. I have several other questions for Genie that I will not go into here. But based on my experience, I cannot recommend Genie. In fact I would warn anyone considering Genie to be very careful about the cost of the contract."

Home office renovations are tax deductible in certain circumstances. First, you must be eligible to take a deduction for your home office. Walk-in showers do require a little extra maintenance. The glass is prone to mildew and hard water buildup, so you’ll have to clean your glass shower door more frequently. They’re also harder to use than a tub for small children, and if you choose an open shower, you’ll get less privacy with a potential draft.

Adding a half bathroom can be worth it for two reasons: you want to increase the livability of your home and increase its value. While a value increase is more likely for a smaller home than a larger one, smaller houses with a large number of occupants can see a drastic increase in the ease and flow of daily life with the addition of a half bathroom.

Home renovation is often less expensive during a recession. Contractors may be willing to give you a deal on labor costs because they’re looking for more work during slow economic times. However, waiting to do a necessary home remodeling project while trying to predict the ebbs and flows of the national economy is overthinking the timing of the project. It’s easier to focus on determining when is the best time of the year to remodel.

If you’re doing a full bathroom remodel, the flooring will go in before the vanity and any other bathroom cabinetry. This will ensure that the same floor is present across your whole bathroom should you ever tear out your vanity and start again. 

If you can only budget for one or the other, you can still replace just the vanity in your bathroom. Just keep in mind that if you decide to replace your flooring later, you’ll need to tear out the vanity to avoid having mismatched floors.
