Small jobs welcome

"Top notch customer service.  They explained to me line by line all the rebates I can get through the utility company.  The biggest being the green energy tax credit that was about to expire by the end of the year if I were to install a solar attic fan through them, which I had no idea.  The rebates and credits really help me make the decision to get it done now.  So glad we did. Technicians were on time, in and out clean and efficient.   The solar attic fan they installed made a huge difference in our attic.   They were able to retrofit it over our existing vent hole which was very nice because we didn't have to cut a new hole in our roof.  All and all just wonderful experience.  The new insulation made our home much more comfortable now."

"I can't thank these guys enough! They gave us a great deal and went above and beyond what we had hired them to do. They are going to come back out and take care of a few other things that they can do besides insulation. I can't recommend them enough. They are very punctual, professional, and very friendly. Even our dogs approve of them! Even before they were finished, I already noticed a VERY big difference in the temperature in the house. Instead of the AC running all day and it being 6-10 warmer than I prefer, it stays at the temperature I want it. The AC runs 1/4 of the time instead of running all day."

"I used this company to clean my ducts and they were thorough and very respectful. This was not an easy job. They also found a terrible blockage in my dryer duct, which was an added service. Itzik came for the consultation and looked throughout my house, which is new to me, and let me know all of the things that needed to be done, including properly protecting the recessed lighting protruding in the attic. They did such a good job, that I hired them to put additional insulation in the attic and an attic fan that he recommended since my home did not have one and it was truly unbearably hot in the attic. I think this has greatly helped with the strain on my air conditioning. When I noticed the fan was going full-time and not cutting off when the cold front came through, I let them know it was not cutting off and even though this installation was months ago, he came out and let me know there was a defective thermostat on the fan and he would replace it as soon as possible. This was no mistake the company made, but simply a lemon thermostat, just like my vacuum cleaner. The fact that he came out so quickly and didnâ t attempt any excuses, made this a mega-star experience. I realize problems happen and itâ s personable people like this company and their true commitment to your safety and comfort that mean the most. I would give this company 10 stars if I could."

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

Both plaster and drywall are durable wall finishes, but they differ significantly in installation, cost, performance, and aesthetics.

Installation & Cost: Drywall installation is faster and more affordable, typically costing $1.50 to $3 per square foot. It uses premade sheets, making it a more accessible DIY project. Plastering is a labor-intensive craft that requires specialized skills, pushing costs to $2 to $10 per square foot. It involves applying a wet paste over a lath framework.

Durability & Performance: Plaster is generally more durable, longer-lasting, and provides superior soundproofing. It is also a better insulator, which can help reduce energy costs. Drywall is easier to remove for future renovations.

Aesthetics: Drywall provides a smooth, uniform surface ready for paint or texture. Plaster offers a high-end, naturally textured look that can hide imperfections and is often preferred for achieving a classic or historic aesthetic.

Which is better? The choice depends on your priorities. Drywall is ideal for those prioritizing a lower upfront cost, faster installation, and DIY potential. Plaster is the better option for a higher-end project where durability, soundproofing, and a unique, premium finish are more important than the initial cost.

There are six levels of drywall finish, from 0 to 5, that refer to the amount of work performed during the finishing process.

Level 0: Drywall is hung with no finishing work.

Level 1: Tape is placed over the seams between drywall sheets.

Level 2: A thin layer of mud is applied over the tape and screw holes. This level is common for utility rooms or walls that will be covered.

Level 3: A full coat of mud covers the screw holes and tape, but the surface is not sanded. This is often used in garages.

Level 4: This is the most common finish for visible interior walls. It involves applying two coats of mud over seams and screw holes, with sanding between each coat, creating a smooth surface ready for flat paint.

Level 5: This is a high-end finish for luxury homes. It includes full taping, mudding, and sanding, plus a final skim coat over the entire surface before painting.

Wet-sanding and dry-sanding each have pros and cons. Dry-sanding is less messy, so it’s a good option if you’re trying to minimize dust (for example, if you’re sanding an occupied home or working with particularly dry or dusty drywall mud). However, dry-sanding is quicker because you don’t have to keep rinsing a sponge or wait for it to dry before painting.

If the holes in the plaster are small, you can fill them with layers of patching plaster until they’re filled. After it dries, you can sand the plaster and paint over it. If the hole is much larger, consider using bonding plaster first and then a layer of patching plaster, completing the process with sanding and a layer of paint.

Textured walls are a great way to hide imperfections left over by drywall installation, but many homeowners feel like it’s an outdated look, despite there being so many types of drywall texture. And while the textured walls of today are a far cry from the popcorn ceilings and faux stucco of our grandmother’s homes, if you want a more modern look or you want to install wallpaper, it’s time to smooth out your walls.
