They arrived right on time on the day of the appointment. All was well until the original guy that came out to the house told me that he didn't want to try to move my china cabinet. (It is of average weight for a traditional china cabinet.) He said he didn't notice it before, which was interesting because he had asked me to empty it. There are only two pieces of furniture in the dining room, so I'm assuming he forgot about the china cabinet. He wanted to leave the cabinet in place without refinishing under it. I expressed concern about the floor looking different where it wasn't refinished. Then he said the floor might get scratched if he moved it and asked me if I would be OK with that. I said "no" to that. He asked if I was ever going to move it, and pointed out that the floor couldn't be seen under the cabinet. I explained that the furniture might be moved, and that the contract indicated the entire entire floor was to be refinished. He left, explaining that the rest of the floor needed to cure before moving the cabinet, but promised that he would come back out to refinish under the cabinet "for free", but didn't seem to want to schedule a time to come back. I was supposed to call him later to ask for this last bit of the job to be done. Before he left, I suggested that the lambswool sliders that he had borrowed from me to slide my heavy couch across the floor could also be used to move the cabinet. Later that day, I noticed thin shiny streaks throughout the entire floor. The floor looked like it had scratches. The owner came back out to see it himself, was very nice, and sent the same two workers back out to do a second coat. The floor looked nice when they left, BUT THEY LEFT AGAIN WITHOUT REFINISHING UNDER THE CABINET, saying they would have to come back because they didn't have something they needed to do the job. IDK Not understanding when they were going to finish the job or why they didn't finish the job on the second visit, I decided to ask the owner directly. I texted the owner's phone and asked when they could come back out to finish the job. 9 days later, there was still no response. I texted again and asked for a reply. This is the response I received from the owner's phone. It is an exact quote with no missing words: "My guys are coming out next Wednesday. I cannot just spend gas time, and labor making multiple trips out, so this will be the last time. Please understand if my guys cannot move the cabinet safely, then you will have to hire professional movers." I texted back and asked if the owner really typed that response. I haven't gotten a reply as of today and it has been almost 3 weeks, so that is why I am writing this review. By the way, I moved the china cabinet myself using the sliders I had suggested they try. It took me about 5 minutes and didn't harm the floor. They finally came back and refinished under the cabinet as promised in our contract. The floors look nice, but it was a major hassle working with this company. There were issues, however.
|
|The cabinets delivered were not in accordance with the face elevation drawings. To keep the job on schedule I had to persuade myself to accept the cabinets as delivered, but I am still not happy. A professional remodeller would not have allowed this to occur. Mr. Jurak seldom visited the job site, so it is not a surprise that he did not know of the problem and insist that it be rectified and that the cabinets be redone per the drawings.
|
|The middle drawer of the cabinet was tiny. I had to reject it and insist that the drawer be per the drawings.
|
|I found that the budget that Jurak allocated for the fixtures and pulls was a Home Depot budget yet they pointed me to high priced stores to acquire the items. I shopped where they sent me. I had no idea about the current cost for the items and did not realize that I would blow the budget at the stores where they sent me. Jurak did accommodate the budget in the final negotiations at settlement, however, so I should not really complain. I would have shopped at Home Depot if I had known up front that the budget was "stingy". I thought, however, that I had contracted for a premium job. My message is that if you use Jurak be careful about the budgeted allocations. The amount may be stingy even if you are paying a premium price for the project.
|
|I have subsequently been told by a duct cleaning firm that I hired from Angie's List that did an energy audit that the bathroom vent van was not properly installed.
|
|I hired Statewide Remodeling to redo our kitchen. The difference between Statewide and Jurak was amazing. The Statewide project manager visited me at least every other day and we made decisions and adjustments before anything could become a problem. All the cabinets etc. were delivered per the drawings and I knew ahead of time what to expect on everything.

This is exactly why this review is rated highly. We had a couple of items in the cabinetry genre that needed attention. We informed him of our thoughts that we may put our home on the market and that we didn't want to go overboard on repairs and refinishes. After we showed him item 1, he indicated a particular repair process that we could cheaply and sufficiently perform on our own! (He even told us the method, the names of the product and where to go to buy and get further guidance.) Item number two was a huge money making opportunity for him. Refinishing a good amount of cabinetry. However, he assured us that it wasn't in horrible shape, and again gave us details as to how to fix our wood products. Item number 3 was wallpaper removal, wall painting and trim/door painting. He informed us that he is no longer in that business. So, in reality, we did not contract him for anything or pay him for anything. But he DID provide service to us. This is why I checked the yes box regarding services performed. We have not contracted him to perform any work, because he convinced us it wasn't necessary. Whaaaaat? Brad was truly professional and gracious. I immediately forgot the name of the products after he left and called him on the phone. He answered the question again for me. Then...two days later, he followed up with an email to see if we had tried the repairs, yet. What wonderful customer service. When I need something done in the cabinetry or wood furniture refinishing areas, I am calling Brad at The Finishers!!! I think you'd be pleased with the high level of customer service that Brad supplies.

I compared prices with several plumbing companies and he charged less. He came out promptly and did that work quickly and efficiently. I should have had the undersink cabinet repaired while the counters were out, but didn't, so that became more difficult since it was one large shelf with a 2-door cabinet that had a divider, and the shelf supports also needed to be replaced. He did a nice job for less than I expected. Then, I asked for a bid on redoing my dining room ceiling with had cracks in a couple of corners along the vaulting. He gave me a good bid, then sent out a team of drywall guys to do the work. They were 45-60 minutes later than expected, but knocked the work out in 2 mornings, including the painting, and it looks very nice. They put down paper to protect my tile and hardwood, used plastic drops to protect walls and keep the dust in that room, and cleaned up meticulously after themselves. Besides all that, Michael is pleasant and easy to work with, does what he promises, and gets in and out quickly. I intend to use him for future projects."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tx/rowlett/dallas-kitchen-and-bath-reviews-6409485.htm"},"position":9}]}

FAQs for cabinet refacing and refinishing projects in Desoto, TX
The cost of cabinet refacing is $7,230 on average. However, it's possible to pay between $1,200 and $16,000 for this project. Factors like the number of cabinets and the refacing materials impact the total cost significantly.
For example, plastic laminate is the most cost-effective cabinet option for refacing, costing $1,000 to $3,000. If you're looking for solid wood cabinets, you can expect to pay more, ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 on average for refacing.
The difference between cabinet refinishing vs. cabinet refacing is that the latter involves replacing most of the cabinet components, whereas the former only freshes the exterior look of the cabinetry.
Cabinet refinishing involves the cabinetry being disassembled, cleaned, and sanded, then a new finish, like paint or glaze, is applied. You can refinish the cabinet doors or go further and refinish the cabinet boxes, too.
Cabinet refacing involves replacing the majority of the cabinet materials, including the cabinet, drawer doors, and hardware. In this process, a veneer is applied over the existing cabinet boxes to make them look new.
The cost to refinish cabinets is $3,000 on average. However, this cost can range from $700 to $6,000, depending on the size and location of the cabinets, the refinishing method, and number of cabinets.
Staining your cabinet doors is the most cost-effective option, costing between $4 and $10per square foot. However, if you choose to glaze them, that price jumps to $10 to $25per square foot.
While it’s possible to reface or refinish kitchen cabinets yourself, it requires substantial time, money, and sweat equity. In particular, cabinet refacing requires many tools and materials, costing you between $1,645 and $6,570, depending on what you already own. Besides that, this is a project that shows imperfections easily. If carpentry isn't your strong suit, hiring a cabinet professional is best to ensure high-quality results.
To prepare for cabinet refinishing or refacing, it’s important to remove all items from the cabinetry in question. In addition, clear any clutter from the room, whether it's the kitchen, bathroom, or otherwise. Be sure to have additional cabinet materials, such as cabinet hardware, lights, and glass inserts, ready for your cabinet installer to use.
Finally, if you have pets, ensure they are in a safe, separate location away from your cabinet professionals, who will bring materials in and out of your home during the process.
