"James, the owner of the company was quick to come out with one of his expert crew members so that they could accurately access what equipment they would need to use to safely take down the two large trees in our front yard that had become a hazard to our roof. One of the trees was a massive oak that was over sixty years old. We also had a smaller oak tree on the corner of the yard that needed to be trimmed and have the canopy lifted. James was very friendly and professional during his visit and made sure that he understood what we specifically wanted done. Because of the massive size of the tree, it required the use of a bucket truck, and rigging. Branch Boss Tree Company has the proper equipment and a sufficient crew of men to handle the task expertly. James submitted a written proposal the same day that he came out to meet us. We were able to sign it and submit it back the same day and we paid only a deposit of 10%. We were put on the work schedule promptly. They came out and took care of all of the trees, and even raked up all the small debris and cleaned everything up so that the yard and sidewalks were clear. The yard was left looking great, and they did not accept my check for the balance until the work was all done except the last part of the clean up. My cousin saw my yard and was so impressed that he asked for the name of the company in case he wanted some work done on his yard and tree! I would gladly hire Branch Boss Tree Company for any future tree or shrub work in my yard."

"Jeff, our MDM Rep. was great to work with. Honest and reliable without question. When it came time for the job, he was here to see everything was as it should be! Miguel, the crew manager was super knowledgeable, hard working and managed his crew very well. Anytime I needed questions answered, Jeff was very responsive and stayed on top of any concerns or questions I had. I would highly recommend MDM for your landscaping needs! Steve C. Azle, TX"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

If you aren’t sure what you’re doing, be very careful when cutting mature tree roots (roots larger than 2 inches). Root cutting and pruning can affect both a tree’s stability and its ability to nourish itself. Issues during root cutting can result in damage or injury.

It’s recommended you call in a pro to help, unless it’s a very small tree and you aren’t worried about the prospect of losing the tree.

Using Epsom salt to kill a tree stump typically takes between six and 12 months. While this may seem like a long time, it is significantly faster than the natural decomposition process, which can take up to seven years. This method is a viable DIY option for stumps that do not pose an immediate hazard. If you need a faster solution, you can hire a professional for stump removal or grinding, though this may cause more damage to the surrounding ground.

Leaving the tree stump and letting it rot is never a good idea, as this leads to insect infestations and other frustrations. Additionally, decomposing trunks are at risk for diseases that spread out to the remaining plants and trees in the yard, thus ruining your whole outdoor aesthetic. It's usually best to remove the stump at the same time you remove the tree.

White vinegar does not kill ivy on trees because its acetic acid concentration is not high enough to overpower it. Vinegar is an effective herbicide for weeds and other plants, but not for the strength of most ivies, including poison ivy and English ivy. You should use an herbicide to kill ivy, such as one with glyphosate, imazapyr, or triclopyr.

In most cases, you should not use a pruning seal on trees after trimming. Applying a sealant can interfere with the tree's natural healing process, and it does not guarantee protection from pathogens. Instead of sealing the cut, the best practice is to support the tree's natural recovery by providing it with plenty of water and a dormant-style fertilizer. However, there are exceptions. Pruning seals may be recommended for very vulnerable species, like elm trees, in areas where dangerous diseases such as Dutch elm disease are prevalent. In these specific situations, the protection offered by a sealant can outweigh its downsides. For advice tailored to your situation, especially after cutting large branches, it is best to consult a local tree trimming professional.
