There are a couple of places where there was a gap between the siding and the brick on my home I wish they had sealed. The job did take a little longer to complete than I had expected. One upside to stucco siding is that it can last for 50 to 80 years, and it’s reasonably low maintenance during that lifespan. However, you’ll need routine maintenance to keep it looking its best, as it will crack and chip as it ages. If you live in an area that sees heavier rainfall, sealing your stucco siding every five to 10 years may be necessary.

Fiber cement siding is one of the lowest-maintenance options. The material’s formula is resistant to insect activities, moisture, and most physical impacts. Vinyl and aluminium siding is also fairly easy to upkeep. All these low-maintenance options only require basic surface cleaning, caulking, and regular gutter maintenance to prevent water dams from forming. 

Inspect annually for cracks, clean with a mild detergent, and reseal or repaint as needed to preserve appearance.

In many areas, a permit is required to remove stucco siding, especially if structural repairs or new siding installation are involved. Check with your local building department for specific requirements and associated permit fees before starting your project. Permit fees range from $100 to $500.

A standard drill will work just fine if you’re drilling small holes, and only a few of them. But anything with a diameter larger than 3/8 inch is best done with a hammer drill, since it is stronger, faster, and also makes your drill bits last longer. While you don’t absolutely need a hammer drill for stucco, it is a worthy investment if you think you might drill more holes down the road.
