"There was no category for chimney cap repair. The last hurricane knocked off our chimney cap. Daniel came out and surveyed the damage and set up the work to be done. The two workers came and did the work. They explained what was happening and showed me detailed pictures of the completed work up on the roof, I am very happy with the service Brushers Chimney offered. Thank you very much! Highly recommended."

"Rico came to inspect my chimney - even a day early! He had time in his schedule the day before and gave me a ring to see if I also had time. He was able to get his team to do a sweep for me the same evening. Very reasonable prices as well. Very excited to light my chimney this season!"

"Daniel did a great job. He repaired my chimney crown and installed a cap. Our fireplace had major repair work done. This included brick work, and a glass door. We decided to upgrade the fireplace from wood burning to a gas log system and lava rock . Now it looks beautiful."

"I had an excellent experience with Emery Sales for vent and duct cleaning. They were extremely thorough and clearly took their time to do the job right—not rushed at all. They explained what they were doing, paid attention to details, and made sure everything was properly cleaned before finishing. You can tell they take pride in their work. Highly recommend Emery Sales if you want a professional, careful, and high-quality duct and vent cleaning service."

Chimney Sweep questions, answered by experts

After a house fire, you should not reenter your home unless the fire crew has told you it’s safe to do so. In the longer term, you should not attempt to make repairs to the house on your own. Professional crews are trained to clean up after a fire (including smoke and soot damage), dry out any water damage from the firefighter crews, and make the necessary structural, plumbing, and electrical repairs—and this is all likely covered by insurance.

It is generally not safe to live in a house with smoke damage, as even minor damage can pose long-term health hazards and structural risks. While it might seem safe temporarily depending on the severity, you should relocate if there is major damage or visible soot. Smoke smells and residue contain dangerous particulates and chemical compounds, including carcinogens, that are hazardous to breathe and can cause respiratory issues. These signs of damage are not always visible but can have dangerous short-term and long-term effects on your health, belongings, and your home's structural materials. You should not stay in the house until a trained professional from a smoke remediation or restoration company has assessed the damage and determined it is safe to return. Your insurance company may cover the cost of alternative housing while the professional work is completed.

To get rid of the smoke smell in a microwave, scrape off any burnt food residue and throw it away. Next, warm a cup of water in a microwave-safe container for three minutes. Then, dip a microfiber cloth into a mixture of water and a couple of drops of dish soap and wipe down the inside of the microwave. Dry the inside of the microwave with a fresh cloth and let everything air out for three hours.

Hazard insurance is the part of your overall homeowner's insurance policy that covers the structure of your home and other structures on your property, as well as any personal property within those structures. When a lender requires you to get hazard insurance for your new home purchase, they’re referring to a standard homeowner’s insurance policy.

Homeowners insurance does not cover DIY mistakes, so tread lightly if you plan to tackle your own home repairs or renovations. If you cause damage to your home while attempting repairs or renovations yourself, the cost of fixing the damage is often considered your responsibility. Most policies only cover damage caused by covered perils like fire, theft, or weather—not by homeowner errors.
