"Mike Cooper did a wonderful job. I had a leaking toilet and he was able to come to my home within a few hours. He was super efficient, polite, and has excellent work ethics. I would hire him again for my plumbing needs."

"Johnny made an experience I was dreading very easy. He was very knowledgeable and gave me the information for me to make a decision to replace my tank water heater with a tankless for a very reasonable price that was within range of what I thought it should cost based on my research. . The quotes I got from three different companies the year before were much higher and convoluted. I also had him install a water softener with a water filtration system. The total price for the tankless water heater, water softener and filtration system was lower than 2 0f the 3 the quotes that I got from the other companies for just the tankless water heater. Johnny is also very accessible. I called him on a holiday weekend to ask a question not realizing it was a holiday. He actually answered my call and took the time to answer my question. It has been a few months now and I am very happy with the work and products. I highly recommend Johnny Pipes."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

Tankless water heaters heat water as it passes through the unit instead of storing heated water in the tank. Their ability to produce hot water on an as-needed basis makes them more efficient. However, they are generally more expensive than traditional units. Is a tankless water heater worth it? Most homeowners will save money with a tankless unit in the long run by using less energy.

Yes, most municipalities have codes that require water heaters to have pans. A pan is necessary when a water heater or hot water storage tank is installed in an area where water leakage could cause damage, such as an attic, second floor, or finished basement. Tankless water heaters are not required to have a pan since there is no storage tank.

Water expands when heated and also when freezing. When water is heated, it expands by around 4%. For a full water heater, this is one of the main reasons malfunctions occur—the hot water has nowhere else to go but out. Due to the constant expansion and reduction in volume, it’s recommended (required in most places) that an expansion tank be installed.

Often, the first issue you might encounter is a lack or loss of power—this could be caused by a tripped switch or a failed heating element. If your hot water is not producing enough power and its size is not the issue, you might need to replace one of its heating elements. A leaking water heater could be caused by tank erosion.

When replacing an old unit, you might want to switch from a gas water heater to an electric water heater or vice versa. To do this, you will likely need to add infrastructure to the area. For example, you likely don’t have a gas line that served your old electric water heater. You’d have to call a plumber to put in a new gas line. If you’re replacing a gas unit with an electric one, the plumber will need to safely cap the old gas line. You will then need an electrician to add wiring for the new electric unit.
