"It went very well. George, owner of GLR Landscape performed several jobs for me. Initially I needed a drainage system for my front yard, GLR did the job, and redid my front flower/shrub bed, with a stone border. Then I needed a retaining wall, GLR did a beautiful job. George also rebuilt my front fence, both sides of my house with two gates. I could go on and on, but George advertises himself as a landscape company, in reality he can accomplish just about any job you need. George and all of his workers are courtous, professional, and competent. I will be working with them again in the future, and I highly recommend GLR Landscaping."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Both nails and screws are common in fence construction, including on pickets. Some builders prefer to use nails when connecting the pickets to the rails and screws when connecting the rails to the posts. However, the best option usually depends on the type of wood fencing and the variety of wood you choose.

Typically, a fence requires one to two coats of stain. The exact number can vary depending on the porosity of the wood. For specific guidance, it's best to check the manufacturer's instructions. After applying the first coat and letting it dry completely, you can assess the finish. If it appears patchy, uneven, or you want a more saturated color, a second coat is recommended. An extra coat can also help cover lap marks.

In most cases, wrought iron fencing will cause your property value to increase. Most types of fence—but especially high-quality wrought iron fences—make your home more secure and deter burglars, which adds to property value. Fences can also help keep children and pets safe, which most homebuyers will appreciate. Wrought iron fences are also highly decorative, and while they don’t provide much privacy, they do add to your home’s curb appeal, which often leads to higher home value.

If you’re trying to keep your dog from running away, an electric fence isn’t the only fence type for your yard worth considering. The cost of dog fences can range from $1,500 to $8,000, with popular materials including wood, vinyl, or aluminum to keep your pet safe and sound.

If you’re trying to keep livestock in their pasture, other fencing options include woven wire, high-tensile wire, and synthetic fencing. These options give your animals boundaries without the use of electricity.

Yes, a well-built fence can increase your home value as it improves your property’s curb appeal and also provides enhanced security. Online studies show that fences have a 50% recovery rate, meaning investing $10,000 in a new fence can potentially increase your property value by $5,000 in the end. The number may fluctuate depending on the quality, material, and design of your fence.
