"DAV Construction owner Alex gave us an estimate and suggested where to go to make decisions on tile, backsplash, cabinets, granite, and fixtures. We worked with these companies and it went very smoothly, most of the items were in stock. The items that we wanted were ordered and shipped very quickly. Since this was our vacation home, Alex and his team stayed at the home during the week. We couldn't live there while the demolition was going on, but on the weekends we would see how the new construction was going. We were very impressed how quickly the job was being done. When we arrived on the weekend, he would meet us there to discuss any changes or additions that needed to be done. He would give us suggestions and we would also give him suggestions. It was easy to work with him and his team. They had to put up 2 support beams for the walls that were removed, remove tile flooring that weighed over 10,000 lbs, re-plumb toilets and sinks, add sheetrock, paint, added texture to the walls, and so much more. It took them 12 weeks to complete this big project."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Replacing a standard toilet with an elongated one is straightforward. The two types can be installed using the same existing drainpipe and plumbing. If you have a small bathroom, make sure that an elongated toilet doesn’t violate local building codes for clearance, which is the space between fixtures and walls.

The average cost to hire a plumber is typically between $45 and $200 per hour, with a common average rate around $125 per hour. This cost can vary based on your location, the plumber's experience, and the complexity of the job. Rates are often broken down by experience level: an apprentice may charge $45 to $90 an hour, a journeyman $60 to $110 an hour, and a master plumber $80 to $200 an hour. While hourly rates are standard, some plumbers may charge a flat fee for routine projects or offer project-based pricing. It's also common for plumbers to charge a minimum service or trip fee. For reference, some typical flat-rate costs for common jobs include: drain unclogging ($220), leaky faucet repair ($270), burst pipe repair ($400), toilet repair ($300), and water heater repair ($600). Note that these rates are for standard service hours; emergency, holiday, and after-hours calls will cost significantly more.

There are a few reasons why this could be the case. More than likely, your flapper is worn out and needs to be replaced. When it’s worn out, it lowers the water pressure during each flush leading to inefficient flushing. Luckily, replacing a toilet flapper is a simple repair that should only take about 30 minutes.

Toilets typically connect to your main vent stack, a vertical pipe that runs through all finished levels of your home and exits through the roof. It’s located behind the walls, but if you have an unfinished basement or a utility closet, you may find a portion of it running the vertical length of the space. Some basement toilets use an air admittance valve instead, which is a small vent located in the wall directly behind the toilet that extends upward a few feet from the drain.

A toilet flange secures your toilet in place to the floor, and connects your toilet to the drain pipe that carries its contents to the sewer. Obvious signs that your flange needs replacement include when it can’t keep up with these two functions. If your toilet rocks back and forth or you see leaks coming from the bottom of your toilet, it’s time for a replacement. Other signs that your toilet flange is broken or faulty may include loose tiles or soft flooring around the toilet, and sewage smells.
