"I usually dont do reviews but Wow! what an experience or should I say lack of mechanical small engine, customer service and attention to detail experience. Brought in a Dixie chopper to have the engine rebuilt which cost around $4,000.00 and took 4-5 months to get it back. Had to bring it in again to have an oil leak fixed which they missed which took almost 3 weeks to fix. When I picked it up today I noticed it was leaking again. Rickey tightened a hose clamp which he thought would take care of it but it didn't. Got it back to the shop and found a puddle of oil in the trailer. The reason he did see the oil leaking out of it is because it was stored outside in the tall grass and not inside which I first requested it be stored. If you want to spend a lot of money for shoddy work that did not meet the customers expectation then have your work done here. I'll be calling another company who care about their customers to have it professionally repaired."

Lawn Tool Repair questions, answered by experts

Repair costs range from $50 to $400, depending on issue severity, part replacements, and labor.

Sometimes dark smoke trailing out of your lawn mower is the result of excess oil. It smokes as it burns off. Other times, it could signal a problem with the combustion or contaminated fuel. If changing the fuel and cleaning your mower doesn’t help, call a professional (especially if the smoke is white).

Yes, many repair services include blade sharpening as part of the maintenance package.

Lawnmowers require seasonal maintenance to continue working correctly. With routine maintenance, you can extend its life to the fullest, which is around 10 years for push mowers and 5-8 years for riding mowers. To keep your lawn mower working correctly, you’ll want to take the following steps at least once a year:

  • Replace the spark plug

  • Change the oil

  • Drain the fuel tank

  • Clean the mowing deck (ideally, after every mow)

  • Replace the air filter

  • Check the carburetor

  • Sharpen the blades

  • Fog the engine

  • Check the tires

The best and safest way to deal with used motor oil is to bring it to an approved facility to be recycled and refined into new material. You may see recommendations to use old oil as an equipment lubricant or wood stain, but using it in these ways can be dangerous, messy, and environmentally irresponsible.
