They were not actually working for us. In addition, the whole process was frustrating because appointments were made with us, where we canceled plans and they never showed or called. They removed equipment before it was dry and then covered themselves by putting it back in. At the end of the day our house is dry as is our bank account. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!"

A dry well can last 30 years if you keep up with maintenance. Maintenance can be tricky with dry wells, but be sure to inspect and deep clean the well at least once per year to keep it from getting clogged up with sediment and debris. Yes! Toilet paper can be flushed if you use a septic tank. While unique toilet papers designed to be used with septic tanks are available, many people have no problem flushing regular toilet paper with a septic tank, so long as you don’t flush too much toilet paper all at once. Do not flush any type of baby wipes or bathroom wipes, even if they say “flushable.”

You can replenish good bacteria in your septic tank by adding three rotten tomatoes or 1/4 ounce of yeast every three months. Put three overripe tomatoes in the garbage disposal while running the faucet. Or pour 1/4 ounce of yeast in the toilet and flush it down. These are the best natural ways to increase bacteria in your septic tank. Septic tank additives are not necessary and may even cause harm to your septic system.

Many septic professionals agree that spring is the best time of year to empty a septic tank. By this point, the temperatures have usually warmed up enough so that the ground is no longer frozen, which makes it easier to access the tank (and less likely for the waste to be frozen inside the tank). Summer and fall are also decent times to do it, but winter isn’t.
