I am a general Handyman with a current EPA Universal Certification, which means that I am licensed to handle any and all refrigerants that are currently available. I am also a Journeyman Mason, handling all aspects of masonry. I am also very familiar with installing/running new wires for cable tv, as well as internet jacks, excluding fiber optic cable. Electricity and plumbing are another set of skills that I have, but I am not licensed in Texas to do anything requiring a permit in those fields. English and Spanish are my languages, with a preference for English.

"I met Toni through a friend at work and he is the GREATEST. I have had a problem with my A/C for 6 yrs. and have had 5 people out to look at it. All said either I needed to add an extra unit or they didn’t know what was wrong with it. So in June 2018, Toni came to my house, built a little ladder out of 2 x 4 in a tight spot so he could look at the problem. In just 10 min he figured out the duct work was totally off and all the cold air was running outside of the house. He had to go through the ceiling to repair the duct work correctly. In Oct. 2018 the ceiling in master bedroom fell in b/c of a leak in the roof. Toni was a dream for this. He figured out a way to fix the leak and not have to get a new roof. I was leaving town, but I trusted him enough to leave him the keys to my house. Came back and the hole in the ceiling was fixed. Next job he is going to rebuild my patio. Toni does not try and break the bank on any repairs you may need. He will give you several scenarios to choose from based on your budget. Toni is professional, always on time, very honest, and cleans up after he is done with the job. I am a single mom and I was very comfortable having him in my house. I would recommend Toni to anyone needing a handy man, I promise you won’t be sorry!"

"After we purchased our home, we had some work done by an AV person who was referred to us by the previous owners. That company made several mistakes and caused a lot of things to now work properly. Our camera system, monitoring alarm systems, and our televisions sometimes did not work. I was referred to Brian Ashworth by the HAI area rep out of Austin. He is excellent when it comes to home automation and internet. What I like about him is that he is honest. He was able to tell me things about my HAI system that I didn’t know about. Instead of trying to up-sale me on another product, he educated me on the system. He fixed everything so that all of our systems were working properly again. He is really good on home automation. He is also going to add some more home automation to our existing system as well."

Central Vacuum Systems questions, answered by experts

It can be difficult to know right away if your central vacuum is clogged since it operates quietly compared to regular vacuums. However, there are a couple of signs you can look for. If you feel like it’s losing suction or isn’t cleaning effectively, then there’s likely a clog somewhere.

Make sure you turn the vacuum on and feel the end of the hose handle. If you don’t feel any suction, then you’re dealing with a clog in the hose. You can see if the clog is further down in the system by attaching the hose to each outlet until you find the one with the least amount of suction.

The disadvantages associated with central vacuums start with cost. They are expensive to install, especially in existing homes, as retrofitting requires opening walls. The system's bulky hoses can also be inconvenient to maneuver and store compared to portable vacuums. Additionally, repairs may need professional service, adding to maintenance costs. Lastly, while powerful, they may be overkill for smaller homes or apartments, making the investment less practical for some households.

Common repairs for central vacuum cleaners include motor repair, electrical repair, and blocked filters. Central vacuum motor issues typically come with a burning smell and loss of suction. With these issues, you might need simple lubrication to keep it running smoothly, or for more extreme problems, you could need a motor replacement.

Electrical problems or losing suction strength, might be reasons to swap out electrical components for new ones. However, a local central vacuum repair professional can tell you the best plan of action for your system.

Before deciding whether or not to install a central vacuum system, consider the pros and cons to determine if it’s right for you.

Pros

  • Increased suction power

  • Improved air quality

  • Reduced noise pollution

  • Longer lifespan than traditional self-contained vacuum units

Cons

  • Higher upfront installation costs

  • Expensive repairs

  • Requires significant storage space

A central vacuum system can be a worthwhile investment depending on your needs and budget. While the upfront cost is higher than a traditional vacuum cleaner, it offers significant long-term benefits. These systems can save you time and make cleaning your home easier, as you only need to carry the hose and vacuum head, eliminating the need to lug a heavy unit up and down stairs. They also tend to operate more quietly and can improve indoor air quality. The convenience and performance over many years may make it a valuable addition to your home if you can budget for the initial installation.
