"I had two room additions added. Victor and his crew came in and tore out work that had been done incorrectly and left unfinished. They tore out the poorly installed drywall and insulation, installed new insulation, fixed some stubs, installed new drywall, textured, reinstalled 3 doors, installed exterior siding, replaced windows with siding and brick, ground down uneven flooring, installed trim and baseboards, painted interior and exterior, installed gutters, painted concrete floors. They did a great job. This is my third time partnering with Victor on a project and he always comes through."

"I highly recommend The Patch Boys of North Texas. They were quick to respond and come look at my drywall needs. Both Garrett & Jonathan were on time, pleasant, explained what they were doing and cleaned up when the jobs were completed. Will definitely contact this company again for my drywall needs."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

The cost to install drywall is between $1.50 and $3 per square foot, while shiplap installation costs between $2 and $7 on average. In most applications, shiplap installations cost more than that of putting in drywall. However, several ways exist to reduce shiplap prices, especially for small locations or accent walls, which can keep the total cost of shiplap competitive with that of drywall.

In most cases, plaster repair will improve your home’s energy efficiency because a solid barrier of the insulative material helps keep conditioned air inside your home. Major plaster repair jobs like repairing large cracks or crumbling sections of plaster or applying a skim coat might make a noticeable difference in your heating and cooling bills. Not only can plaster repairs improve efficiency, but they can also reduce strain on your HVAC equipment, potentially saving you money on maintenance and repairs.

The easiest way to tell if a wall is load bearing is to check if it’s an exterior wall or if it runs perpendicular to the joists above and below it (or parallel to beams). Exterior walls are almost always load-bearing, and walls that run under beams or parallel to them are also usually load-bearing. There are exceptions to these rules, and walls that don’t fit into these categories can still be load-bearing. If you’re unsure, hire a structural engineer to look at your home to assess whether or not the wall is structural.

There are a few ways to figure out if your walls are plaster or drywall, but the pushpin method is probably the easiest option. To try it, choose a part of your wall where you can insert a pushpin or thumbtack without leaving an obvious mark. If it goes in easily, you have drywall. But if the wall is tough to penetrate, that’s plaster.

There is no way to cut drywall without making dust, but you can reduce the amount of dust and especially the dangerous airborne particles by using manual cutting tools. Using a utility knife to score and snap your drywall will minimize dust production, and a jab saw for cutting cutouts for boxes and fixtures will generate almost no airborne dust. Even if you use these methods, you should still wear a respirator and safety goggles to avoid damage to your lungs and eyes.
