"For over eight months I have tried on my own to get several foundation wall repair companies, local and out of town, to fix an opening in a foundation wall at my home. The highly recommended companies, a total of six, came out and indicated that they could not do the job. In total frustration and on the verge of giving up I remembered HomeAdvisor. I have used them in the past with other projects involving my home with great success. So, I entered the foundation wall problem on HomeAdvisor.com and only one company popped up, Top Notch Lawn and Home Services. I contacted them, and a few days later Chanse, the owner, came out and took a look at the problem and indicated that he and his crew could fix it. Needless to say, that took a great deal of weight off my shoulders. A few days later, Chanse and his crew arrived and repaired the foundation wall that had plagued me for over eight months. They also re-landscape and re-seeded the area that was affected by the repair. This company is by far the best I have ever came across. I will be recommending this company to anyone needing foundation repair or lawn and home services. This company is truly remarkable in its professionalism, experience, and speediness of service. If I could, I would have given them ten stars. Great job HomeAdvisor for listing this company."

"It went very well. Harry from IHY offered a quote personally in record time. He and his crew came in early the next day and finished the job that day. I could observe the efficiency and expertise with my own eyes and was very impressed. Harry and his brother Isaac have something good going and I would recommend them any time (even my mother :) )"

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Gravel is the cheapest way to extend a driveway. Gravel is an affordable, practical option that’s easy to install and perfect for DIY projects, helping you save on labor costs. It can be quickly spread and leveled to create extra driveway space without heavy preparation. While gravel doesn’t offer the same durability or finished look as concrete or asphalt, its low cost makes it ideal for budget-conscious homeowners who want a functional solution without overspending.

Your city or county will have guidelines about the minimum and maximum width and length of private roads. The average private road is 12 feet wide, and length, of course, depends on your property. Requirements also depend on the amount of traffic and types of vehicles your road experiences. Check with local ordinances before planning a road on your property.

The dimensions of a driveway apron vary based on local building codes, the width of your driveway, and the distance between the driveway and the road. On average, aprons range from 12 to 24 feet wide and 8 to 18 feet long. Typically, the end of the apron connected to the driveway matches its width—such as 10 to 12 feet for a single-car driveway—while the end at the street flares out to allow cars to turn in and out more easily. In some areas, you may not be responsible for the portion of the apron that extends beyond the sidewalk, but this depends on local laws.

If your new pavers look dull or unclean, it is likely due to efflorescence, a chalky, white powder that forms when lime in the pavers gets wet. This condition often resolves on its own, as rain will naturally wash it away within about a year. For faster results, you can use a pressure washer to clean the pavers. Alternatively, consider using cleaning products specifically designed to remove efflorescence or applying sulfuric acid crystals.

Wet cutting is usually the preferred method. It controls dust, which helps protect your lungs and makes for a cleaner working environment. Plus, the water cools the blade, preventing overheating and prolonging its life while providing smoother, more precise cuts. The downside is the mess—water and asphalt sludge can be messy to clean. Dry cutting, though convenient if water isn’t available, creates a lot of dust, which can be harmful. This also increases the risk of blade damage due to overheating. So, if you have the option, wet cutting is the better method for most asphalt jobs.
