"BEWARE! I contacted Your Neighbors Roofer back in November to repair two leaks in my roof. Jerry Trumbo responded to my home and assessed what needed to be done to fix the leaks and quoted me a price of $2000.00 to repair the leaks. The price seemed high, but Jerry assured me that the company stood behind their work and guaranteed the leaks would be properly and professionally repaired. A crew arrived at my house a couple of weeks later, worked for an hour and left. When it rained again, I found I had more leaks than before the work had been done. I contacted Jerry and the same crew responded and worked for another hour. I waited for it to rain again and found that both leaks were still present. I contacted the company, as Jerry, my first contact appeared to no longer be with the company. A gentleman named David (never got his last name) responded with a crew, made another attempt to fix the leaks, which were unsuccessful. I then spent several weeks to months on the phone, trying to get David to come back, but would get nothing but excuses (Too busy, not working in Cookeville this week, etc.). David finally said that he would install a drain pipe on my roof to slow one of the leaks and that he had to pick up a new product to seal both of them. When David arrived, he installed the drain pipe, but didn't secure it. so now anytime the wind blows, it drags all over my roof. He also said that he did not have the new product he mentioned but would respond back as soon as he obtained it. Months went by with me calling David and getting the same excuses. David finally told me that he was leaving the company but assured me that he would make sure that Terry (never got her last name) in the office was aware that my job was incomplete and promised me I would get put on the schedule. Two weeks went by, and I received no word from anyone at Your Neighbors Roofer. I began calling Terry at the office, and again, nothing but excuses, but always promising to call me back to add me to the schedule, but of course, never following through. I am now at the point that I have had to get a lawyer involved to assist me recouping my money from this unethical business. The bottom line is this. Your Neighbors Roofers are not skilled enough to determine the cause of problems you may be having with your roof. They are not equipped with tools/materials to address the problems when they do eventually show up. They try to come up with "bandaid" solutions on the fly. They DO NOT stand by their work or guarantee it by any means. Please do yourself a favor and save yourself the trouble I got myself in with Your Neighbors Roofer."

Roof Ice and Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

The best way to save money on snow removal is to sign up for a seasonal contract that guarantees service throughout the entire winter. Most companies charge between $200 and $600 for this service, and they’ll often give you a break on the price if you extend annually. Of course, savings will depend on your area. If you live in a moderate climate where snowfall may or may not occur, you could pay more than you need during a light snow year. Still, it’s usually a safe bet to sign a seasonal contract.

A common mistake is you can let snow melt naturally in a window well. However, snow buildup in the well can damage your window frames and walls. The melting snow also poses risks of water damage as it may leak through into the basement. It’s important to shovel snow out of your window wells before too much snow is piled in there.

Yes, snow should be removed from a deck to protect it from damage caused by moisture and heavy loads. Shovel the snow off of your deck regularly once it is more than four inches deep. Avoid using salt, which can damage your deck.

Snowblowers come in three different sizes: first-, second-, and third-stage blowers. Each additional stage is larger with higher intakes, more powerful, and has more gear options.

A first-stage blower, also called a snow thrower, is usually best for snow 6 to 8 inches or below. Electric snow blowers are usually only available in this size. If you regularly get snow that’s well above six inches, consider a second-stage snow blower. If snowstorms dump 2 to 3 feet of snow repeatedly during winter, you need a third-stage snow blower to tackle it.

When starting the engine, you typically leave the choke on a snowblower in the "choke" or "closed" position. After starting, let the engine run for a few minutes to warm up. Then, gradually open the choke, moving it to the "open" or "run" position, allowing more air into the engine and transitioning to a normal fuel-air mixture. The exact duration varies based on the snowblower model and ambient temperature, but as a general rule, you should open the choke once the engine has stabilized and runs smoothly, typically within a few minutes.
