Formica® is a brand name for the laminate countertops it produces. When comparing Formica to other laminates, the choice often comes down to personal preference. Formica is a popular brand known for its durability and affordability. Due to its brand recognition, it may be slightly more expensive than generic laminate options, but the name often carries an expectation of a certain quality standard.

Unfortunately, you cannot put hot pans directly on laminate countertops, as the heat can cause significant damage. The heat can cause chips, burns, and marks, plus weaken the laminate. If you do have something hot you need to set down, then be sure you use a trivet or towel as a barrier between the countertop and pan so you can prolong its life.

Original Gorilla Glue is not a good choice for laminate countertops. It is not a contact cement, which is the best choice for this material, and it does not explicitly state that it should be used on laminate. Perhaps the best reason to avoid using Gorilla Glue on laminate is that it expands three times its original size, which could lead to your laminate being pushed away from the countertops.
