"The quality of the work and responsiveness were top notch. It has been a pleasure doing business with Creative Bobcat Concepts; Cory is extremely honest, hard working, very knowledgeable about excavation best practices, and provides very reasonable and fair pricing. Within hours of my request for quotation, Cory drove 1 ½ hours to examine the work necessary, provided a quotation the next day, and completed the job in a timely manner within the highest standards of quality. Thank you Cory, Creative Bobcat Concepts has my highest personal recommendation."

"I met Blaine and his father, Ron in December. I instantly knew they were the people I wanted to do the job. As we walked around my yard I was impressed with their knowledge and courtesy. I was particularly happy to hear they'd been in this business for 3 generations. I interviewed two other companies getting the obligatory 3 references. The difference between the 2 and Blaine was night and day. Neither of them really knew what they were doing. One, it seemed had to check with my engineer on every step. Blaine knew exactly what to do without consulting anyone (except sometimes his dad)- they were a Team! They are the experts. The job was finished sooner than expected. I've never seen people work so efficiently.. They worked in tandem with the structural engineers specifications. Although I don't think they needed his instructions. They left a very clean worksite (after excavation work!) I highly recommend this excellent company."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

After finishing excavating, schedule a final inspection with local authorities to close out your permits. Keep your 811 utility documentation handy. Because Loudon has heavy clay soils, stabilize the ground immediately with silt fencing or hydroseeding to prevent erosion. Verify that the new grading directs water away from your foundation. Finally, monitor the backfilled soil for settling through one full seasonal cycle before adding any permanent hardscaping over the area.

Helpful?

Address poor yard drainage first. The combination of TN rainfall and clay soils makes installing French drains or swales an urgent priority. Next, inspect your private septic system, as excavating is necessary for drain field evaluations or tank repairs. You should also consider foundation drainage improvements to protect your crawl space from moisture intrusion. Finally, plan for utility line trenching if you need to connect to municipal water or sewer services.

Helpful?

Directing downspouts toward newly graded areas concentrates water flow and accelerates erosion. Parking heavy vehicles over recently backfilled zones causes uneven settling in Loudon clay soils, which destroys drainage slopes. Planting deep-rooted trees near utility trenches leads to severe root intrusion over time. Additionally, neglecting to clear sediment buildup from your French drains after heavy rain effectively ruins your previous excavating efforts by allowing water to pool around your property.

Helpful?

Skipping the mandatory 811 utility call creates massive safety hazards. Homeowners also mistakenly begin excavating without securing the required grading or foundation permits. Another major mistake involves using native TN clay as backfill, which shrinks and swells seasonally, causing structural settlement. Failing to install proper erosion controls, like silt fencing, leads to severe sediment runoff during rainstorms. Always check local floodplain restrictions before digging near lakes or river tributaries.

Helpful?

General contractors handle site clearing, trenching, and earthmoving for residential projects. Septic system installers specialize in soil evaluation and drain field excavating. Site grading specialists manage slope stability across the hilly Loudon terrain. Utility contractors safely install water, gas, and electrical lines. For complex structural projects near the lake, geotechnical engineers provide essential soil testing. Finally, erosion control specialists install sediment barriers to comply with state stormwater regulations.
