"I hired PowerUpp Electric to wire a new ceiling fan I installed. It connects to a 3-way switch that I couldn't figure out how to wire so I had to call in a pro. Richard was early for our appointment, very professional and completed the job in no time. He also gave some love to my dogs before he left so he gets 5-1/2 stars! I recommend Richard at PowerUpp Electric 100%."

"Opening a new restaurant/business is incredibly stressful, but working with Ryan at Maddox Electric has alleviated a lot of that stress. We never had to worry if or when he would show up, or the quality of his work. His prices were very fair and worked within our budget, and he made sure we were happy every step of the way. We look forward to working with Ryan for all our electrical needs; both in our business and at our residence."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, a water leak poses a major fire risk at your home because water is a conductor of electricity. Water that comes into contact with sparks or electrical wires can instantly ignite flammable materials. Additionally, any type of exposure to water can cause wires and other electrical components within your home to corrode. When assessing categories of water damage, it's important to know that even a small amount of moisture near wiring could cause sparks that lead to a fire.

If your outlet is testing fine but keeps tripping, that’s a sign your GFCI outlet is working, but there’s a problem somewhere else. Try plugging in different devices and see if the outlet keeps tripping. If it’s not the appliance that’s causing the issue, it could be a problem in your wiring. Faulty wiring can be a source of electrical fires and other serious problems. We recommend arranging an inspection by an electrician if an outlet appears to be working but keeps tripping.

The answer depends on your needs and the availability of your current electrical panel. If you’re hoping to seriously up the power in your detached living space, you may also need to consider increasing the power of the amp your home runs on (from 100-amps to 200-amps, for example).

No. Blue wires and black wires are different. Even though both are used as hot wires, they serve different functions. Black wires are far more common in residential properties. They are always hot, can be positive or negative, and usually carry electricity from a power source to an outlet. Blue wires have a specialized usage in residential properties, generally as traveler wires, and are more common in commercial properties.

Yes—if a breaker is old or damaged, it might not be able to detect power surges or electrical overload. If that happens, the breaker won’t trip. Instead, it will begin to overheat, putting your electrical system at risk of fire or total electrical failure. Circuit breakers don’t last forever, so you can proactively replace old or damaged breakers before they stop working.
