"Luis and his team did a great job replacing the old wooden boards on our ground level deck with Trex. They also inspected the support structure and replaced a couple of the joists as needed. Then they installed a vapor barrier under the deck and replaced our bench seat with Trex as well. Throughout the job Luis kept us well informed of their plans and when they expected to arrive on the job each day. All of the work was completed on time and with great attention to detail."

"They repainted my shutters and hung up a few shutters that had fallen down. They painted two interior hallways and an interior stairway. They did a perfect job! I plan on hiring them again to do more painting around my house!"

"I would highly recommend Groovy Hues to anyone looking for high quality stain and paint services that wonâ t break the bank. The Groovy Hues team is professional and easy to work with. They did an exterior stain job on our large fence, and we were so pleased with the quality and price of the work, that we also hired Groovy Hues to paint our master bathroom. We look forward to using Groovy Hues again in the future!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.

Adding a second coat of stain to wood can even out the color to some extent, but it won't drastically alter the hue if the initial application is too light or too dark. It's more effective at enhancing the richness of the color rather than significantly changing it. Ensure the first coat is dry before applying the second.

Yes, many repair services include repainting to match the color of the existing siding or walls. Most professionals offer this service to ensure the repaired area blends in seamlessly.

No, it is not okay to paint over rotted wood. Painting over rotted wood will not address the underlying issue and can trap moisture, leading to further decay. Properly addressing the rotted wood by removing and replacing or repairing the damaged areas is necessary before you can even consider painting.

Wet-sanding and dry-sanding each have pros and cons. Dry-sanding is less messy, so it’s a good option if you’re trying to minimize dust (for example, if you’re sanding an occupied home or working with particularly dry or dusty drywall mud). However, dry-sanding is quicker because you don’t have to keep rinsing a sponge or wait for it to dry before painting.
