"If you are in need of quality masonry work I highly recommend Felix and Oscar of Cochos Masonry. Recently had foundation repair on our home. We needed to have some bricks replaced and some tuck pointing done to repair cracks in the mortar. I put out a request on all the usual social media sources for an estimate for the project. I received three responses and estimate from each. We wound up working with Cochos Masonry and am glad that we did. Oscar was professional and did a great job explaining the work that needed to be done. Pricing was very competitive and the project was completed within two days of of initial contact with Oscar. I will definitely will be using them again for any future masonry projects."

"They were the only contractor of three I requested estimates from to actually show up and provide one. Iâ m glad for that now because they also showed up the day they said they would, but more importantly, they did a great job repairing my brick wall damage. I would highly recommend this contractor for your masonry work, and I would definitely use them in the future if needed."

"Caleb did a great job repairing our paver bricks. The address looks like new. He had trouble finding some supplies but kept us informed until he found what was needed and was able to come to do the work. He was courteous and professional throughout the job. I highly recommend him ."

"Antonio saved our brick steps, which had been weathered and damaged by ice and snow over the years. He did a fabulous job, matching well the mortar of the original brickwork. Importantly, he came when he said he would come, and the work site was clean when he departed. We are grateful for his talented work, and his timely completion of this project. His work merits a 5-star rating."

"Not only did Highmark come and do a wonderful job on our landscaping project, they were on time, professional and even gave our youngest a ride in the bobcat. I am completely satisfied with the work that they did and would recommend them to anyone needing small or large projects completed with care and competency."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can use a mixture of 1 tablespoon of bleach and a gallon of warm water to clean stubborn stains from brick. Do not use bleach without diluting it in water. Undiluted bleach may cause discoloration. You can use either Oxygen bleach such as OxiClean or chlorine bleach. Always wear protective gloves and eye protection when handling bleach.

You may not need a hammer drill if you’re planning on drilling one or two very small diameter holes in brick. For holes with a diameter of 3/16-inch or less, a regular drill with a masonry bit can do the job. However, the bit will heat up quickly, and the process will take significantly longer than with a hammer drill. Prepare to cool your drill bit down in a bucket of water more often.

The size of your pizza oven will determine the number of bricks necessary to build it. So the bigger your pizza oven, the more fire bricks you’ll need to purchase. Keep in mind that fire bricks cost about $3 each.

Yes, concrete is significantly stronger than masonry, especially if the concrete pour includes reinforcements, like steel rebar. Concrete is a uniform material that can withstand compression, sheer force, and tensile force as long as it’s reinforced. Masonry involves the use of mortar or grout to connect individual building materials, like brick, stone, or tile. Mortar and grout are also reasonably strong and resist compression well, but they don’t come close to the strength of poured concrete.

A fireplace hearth is a fireproof flooring material that extends out from the base of the fireplace and into the room. Hearths can be made of brick, ceramic, marble, limestone, and more. A hearth serves the purpose of decreasing the fire risk in the area directly around the fireplace. If flying embers hit carpet or wood, they’ll spark and create a fire. But if they hit something like tile or granite, they’ll simply go out.
