Customers say: True professional

"If you are in need of quality masonry work I highly recommend Felix and Oscar of Cochos Masonry. Recently had foundation repair on our home. We needed to have some bricks replaced and some tuck pointing done to repair cracks in the mortar. I put out a request on all the usual social media sources for an estimate for the project. I received three responses and estimate from each. We wound up working with Cochos Masonry and am glad that we did. Oscar was professional and did a great job explaining the work that needed to be done. Pricing was very competitive and the project was completed within two days of of initial contact with Oscar. I will definitely will be using them again for any future masonry projects."

Small jobs welcome

"Caleb did a great job repairing our paver bricks. The address looks like new. He had trouble finding some supplies but kept us informed until he found what was needed and was able to come to do the work. He was courteous and professional throughout the job. I highly recommend him ."

"5 stars is too meagre a rating for Justin Eoff's craftsmanship! We had an architectural brick wall in the front yard by the drive extending 60 or so feet from the dive. Overtime grout on the top course of brick had shrink and a crack developed from pressure on a curve in the wall. Justin knew exactly what to do and used construction grade caulk to redo the grout on the wall (ground the ~75' grout line and caulked so that it exactly matches the original grout appearance. It's always nice to get some thing repaired to be better than new! Justin Roof knows how to do this without question."

"My experience with Highmark Turf, LLC was a positive one. I ended up hiring a different contractor simple due to the price I quoted exceded the budgeted amount, so rather than install patio pavers, I had cement poured and am going to tile in the future. But my experience with Highmark Turf was a good experience and I would recommend them."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, brick should be clean before staining to ensure the best results. Dirt, dust, mold, mildew, and other substances on the brick can prevent the stain from properly adhering to it. Thoroughly cleaning the brick allows the stain to penetrate and bond to the surface more effectively. Cleaning typically involves using a pressure washer or a stiff brush with mild detergent. However, stubborn residue may require a specialized masonry cleaner.

Masonry uses units like bricks, cement blocks, and stone with mortar between them. Mortar is generally made of sand and a type of cement. Examples of masonry include the brick or stone on a house, chimney, or freestanding wall. Concrete is a mixture of water, sand, stone aggregate, and other materials, and is poured into forms or moldings. Types of concrete applications include driveways, garage and basement floors, and poured concrete walls in basements and crawl spaces.

If you want to make your home eco-friendly, enjoy low maintenance, and love the fact that its looks will take people’s breath away (and not because they were trying to blow your house down), then a modern brick home is right for you. You can hire a mason to get the building process started for your brick home.

But if you’re not fond of the color and don’t want to deal with the process of repointing or other repairs, consider going with vinyl or wood. These materials offer a lower cost. While they tend to require more maintenance, they don’t cost nearly the same as exterior brick house repair.

No, it’s not recommended to attach shutters to brick without drilling. Brick is dense and built to last, so adhesives and shortcut methods don’t usually cut it. Even heavy-duty glue struggles to hold up over time—especially against wind, moisture, and temperature changes. Most no-drill options are made for materials like vinyl or wood, not solid masonry. Skipping the drill might seem easier, but it puts your shutters—and anything below them—at risk. For a secure, lasting install, drilling is the way to go. It takes more effort up front, but the result is safer and more reliable.

You will repoint over a fraction of the old mortar, but you should scrape away 1/2 to 1 inch of mortar from the joints before repointing. Otherwise, the repointing is only masking the weakened mortar instead of actually replacing it, which could put your chimney at risk of bigger, more expensive damages later on.
