"STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. They took my 1st half deposit and then vanished. I have called multiple times. Spoke with someone once and they promised a call back. Never did. Emailed and no response. This was over 4 months ago. Nothing. They stole my money. Sales guy was John Mullikin. Here's their class-act response by chat. The best response I've had yet. "Conversation closed by Erika"."

**January Promotion This month we are offering a FREE Cruise Voucher for a complete basement install, crawlspace or our energy saver products. Please call our office today to schedule your free in home estimate. 615-360-7000 Alan Chandler started working on his first basement in 1968 while still in school. At that time the method for basement moisture problems was to simply coat the outside walls with black tar and place a plastic material on the exterior wall. At the base of the wall, on top of the footer, were 3 foot clay tiles, with pitched gravel on top and between the footer area. It was finally backfilled with dirt. Since then, Alan of All-Dry has been constantly educated and kept abreast of the latest technologies. This has allowed him to create a patented water-control system that is safe and effective for your home. Nick Chandler, Director of Operations, has over 20 years of experience in the industry. Nick is highly trained and is a certified waterproofing and structural repair contractor. Alan and Nick work together to offer unprecedented solutions for basement moisture solutions for homeowners in TN and KY.

GA, providing peace of mind with licensed and insured team members, free inspections, and transferable lifetime warranties. "Very disappointed with my experience. Everything related to the actual work is very rushed. They have supervisors come out before the job is finished to sign off on the work. No one showed me any pictures or talked through what was done at the end. I had to ask one of the foreman as he was leaving if he could show us what was done. He seemed surprised I would ask. As a result we were left with an incomplete repair, trash on our property, and damage to our property. I had to call the salesman to get him to come out and he agreed what we had been left with was atrocious. If I hadn't called we would have been stuck with shoddy work, trash, and damage - that's their standard. We scheduled a call back that was a month out to give them plenty of time to get organized and make sure we were getting what we paid for. I was supposed to get refunded for part of the job and I've never seen a dime. The salesman was good enough to include another jack free of cost which I really appreciated. But on the morning of the call back, the crew had no idea about the jack or where to put it, so it was another morning of trying to light a fire under these people to keep their word. This isn't a dishwasher on the fritz, this is my home and tens of thousands of dollars. The lack of organization and respect for me and my home is inexcusable. So I wrote an email to the GM, thinking he'd take some ownership of what had happened and I'd at least get an apology and they'd work internally on improving. Not only did I not get an apology, he was defensive and said it was a "good repair." If that is the standard of a good repair, I'd hate to see a bad one. I'm going to have everything inspected by a structural engineer and will go from there. I've been treated with more respect buying fast food. Spend your money elsewhere."

Cross Driven Construction has been in business for over 15 years. We seek to do more than build buildings, we seek to build long lasting relationships with our clients, and helping people build, improve, repair and maintain their home. Never forgetting that when we are working for people,we are working for God.

"Overall we are happy with the work done. One of the things that most impressed us is that our call was returned promptly and we received the promised quote promptly as well. This is in stark contrast to the other ( all A rated ) providers we called, many of whom either never bothered to return our initial call or send us the promised quote after reviewing the job. Work was done as agreed, no surprises."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Trusses and rafters each have advantages and disadvantages, so one isn’t necessarily better than the other. For example, trusses are more affordable and often come in prefabricated kits, so they’re easier to build than rafters. However, rafters are available in a variety of designs, so it’s easier to find one that fits your style preferences. Plus, if you want to build an attic at some point down the line, it’s far easier to do that with rafters rather than trusses.

Indications include cracks in walls, uneven floors, and sticking doors or windows that suggest foundation movements.

In many areas, advice from a structural engineer or an architect will be required by your building department before you can remove a wall, but even if it’s not necessary, it’s a good idea. Accidentally removing a load-bearing wall—even if a general contractor advises that it’s safe—can cause major structural damage, putting you and your family at risk and potentially costing thousands or tens of thousands of dollars in property damage.

You should pick steel for your new support beam for a few reasons. While steel is more expensive than other materials, such as laminated veneer lumber or glulam, it offers the following benefits:

  • Fire-resistant

  • Unaffected by pests

  • Longer-lasting

  • Stronger against water damage (when galvanized against rust)

First, most contractors will have a structural engineer create a report and plan for your project to ensure it’s safe to cut into the load-bearing wall. The contractor will then excavate around the wall, if necessary, measure the opening—allowing for additional space to fit and level the door, and then cut the doorway out. They will likely install a steel lintel as a header over the door for support. Once the doorway is cut out, they’ll demolish the concrete using sledge hammers and masonry chisels, clean up the surrounding concrete, and seal around the door with masonry mortar.
