Customers say: True professional

"Very knowledgeable, creative, informative. I especially love that she views home overall and repurposes items you have, rather than purchasing a lot of new organizers. We have had 3 rooms,2 closets, and a large finished garage done so far. We have only purchased 2 low-cost shelf organizers under the kitchen island. She is so enthusiastic, full of ideas and guidance. She makes certain you feel comfortable about decluttering--and works with you on design. I am new to a wheelchair and the initial priority was room to roll around. But the transformation is just awesome!! Our friends are impressed, and we are so happy, and I can function in the house so much better. Thank you. Oh, also kept appts. and on time. Lynda C: Exceptional service, very professional, easy to work with, I can breathe in my home again, I would recommend them, patient and credible vision. Exceptional organizing skills, very knowledgeable, creative. Incredibly professional. Exceptional service."

"I got a deal from Berger about their table pad and just in time for my new dining room set. I didn't have time to set the template due to a new baby in the house. A few months later, they still honored my deal! WOW! I sent it in and they made the pad pretty quick. Shipping was fine and the fit was excellent. I would recommend them to anyone! Truly a good company to work with. A++"

Interior Design and Decorating questions, answered by experts

Hiring a professional for holiday decorating, especially for hanging lights, is often well worth the investment for several reasons. A key benefit is safety; if you are physically unable to hang lights due to injury, or if your home has multiple stories or other high places that pose a safety hazard, a professional can handle the job securely. They also have the expertise to assess your electrical system to ensure it can handle the load. Hiring a pro is also a great option for homeowners who lack the time or capability to decorate. Professionals can create a stylish, chic, and upscale look that will wow your guests, and they may even save you money on decor. Finally, many holiday lighting experts include maintenance and repairs as part of their rates, ensuring your display looks great throughout the season without any extra effort on your part.

Hiring a high-quality interior decorator should always start with reading through online reviews to see the kind of experience other homeowners have had. You can narrow down your search and then ask the remaining companies for references and examples of their past work. It’s during this stage that you’re likely to find a company that suits your specific tastes and one that has experience with the style you want to bring into your home. You should consider calling references to ask about the process and the homeowners’ experiences with the decorator before, during, and after service.

Balancing aesthetics with functionality amidst space planning is important. To do so, you could consider consulting both an interior designer and an architect to fulfill both these needs. Or you can tackle it on your own by prioritizing personal touches amidst space planning that add to the look but don't take away from the livability of the space.

Most interior designers have at least a four-year degree, if not an advanced degree in interior design. Additionally, many states require interior designers to be licensed. If your state does not require licensing, interior designers can take a licensing exam with the National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ). Overall, licensing requirements vary from state to state, but most licenses require certain education levels and experience to qualify. To check the qualifications of your interior designer, use Angi’s state licensing tool.

Whether hiring an interior designer is worth the cost depends on your budget, the scope of the project, and your own design and project management skills. For larger projects or those beyond your DIY skills, an interior designer is often a worthwhile investment. The benefits include realizing the best layout, functionality, and decor for your lifestyle and taste; managing the project to keep it on track and within budget; serving as a point of contact for contractors; accessing discounts from suppliers; and assisting with home staging for a sale.
